With Square Enix’s action RPG title The World Ends with You airing its much-awaited anime adaptation in Japan this week, many of the game’s fans have likely been hoping that new announcements about the game's sequel will be made by the company sooner than later. It seems that Square Enix has answered the game’s fans’ prayers by launching a new gameplay trailer that reveals the worldwide release date of NEO: The World Ends With You.

Though The World Ends with You is already more than a decade old, being released on the Nintendo DS platform back in 2007, the title experienced a rekindling of online buzz when Square Enix announced the game’s anime iteration and sequel last year. Now, TWEWY fans will once again be able to compete in the “Reaper’s Game” but with new 3D visuals, a new main character, and several different rival teams. Fans may even feel a bit of nostalgia as the original music composer of TWEWY announced that they will also be returning to create the soundtrack of the sequel.

In the release date trailer, Square Enix announced that the sequel to The World Ends with You will be made available worldwide this July 27, 2021. NEO: The World Ends with You will be launched on several platforms, mainly on the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 4. No news about the game hitting the PlayStation 5 has been confirmed, so fans may have to wait for official announcements from Square Enix to see if the title will be made available on the next-gen platform.

Released in both Japanese and English, the trailer delved deeper into the sequel's new character roster, showing off each of their visual styles and their specific voice actors. Each of the characters have been grouped into their respective rival teams, all of which are participating in the Reaper's Game. The trailer also revealed different shots of the game's setting of Shibuya, and confirmed that psych pins will be another gameplay feature making a comeback in NEO: The World Ends with You.

There are only a few months left until the launch of NEO: The World Ends with You, and fans are likely waiting to learn more about the game's main narrative or the backgrounds of each of the newly introduced characters. Hopefully Square Enix will once again listen to the title's fans, and release more information about the action role-playing game in the months leading to its official release date.

NEO: The World Ends with You will be launched on July 27, 2021 for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
