Square Enix has announced that the understated sequel NEO: The World Ends With You has hit the Steam platform and will have a discounted price to celebrate its launch. NEO: The World Ends With You is the sequel to the original sleeper hit JRPG from 2008, where players battle throughout an alternate dimension of Shibuya to survive The Reapers' Game. It originally launched for consoles last year, along with PC, albeit as an Epic Games Store exclusive during that period.

Despite being a well-regarded game among TWEWY fans and critics, NEO: TWEWY ended up selling lower than expected, noting that it had underperformed. No specific sales numbers were in the company's report back in November, however. Some believed the lack of marketing for the game in the West up to its launch did it no favors, as there were no promotional trailers in any of its major industry appearances. This invisible advertising seems to be a recurring thing with NEO: TWEWY, as without warning, Square Enix just shadow-dropped the game onto the Steam platform.

To commemorate this surprise launch of the game, gamers are getting a limited-time discount of 25% off if they buy the game off of Steam. This offer will end on October 25, meaning fans have a short time frame to take advantage of this price cut. Not only that but a brand-new piece of artwork was posted as well, drawn by series regular artist and contributor Gen Kobayashi. It depicts Rindo, Fret, Nagi, and other members of NEO: TWEWY's cast as the three fight to survive in the Reapers' Game.

This surprise launch of NEO: TWEWY was hailed with a brand-new trailer that was posted to Square Enix's Twitter account shortly after it dropped on Steam. It shows off many of the things fans can expect in this release, including NEO: TWEWY's gameplay, its story beats, along with the incredible soundtrack that the game is well-known for.

With this game now on Steam, it's left some fans wondering if there's more at work involving the series, or if it's just another platform for NEO: TWEWY to release on. The fact that this game had no advertising up until this surprise launch left some fans scratching their heads, with others bemoaning that the timing of this release is before another JRPG set in modern Japan: Persona 5 Royal. While the future of TWEWY is currently murky, fans are celebrating that this game is on another common storefront for others to get into the game.

NEO: The World Ends With You is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, and PS4.
