There's a lot to love about the Need For Speed franchise's latest installment Need For Speed Unbound, from its frantic gameplay to its fantastic visual style. Perhaps one of the most engrossing elements of the game is its vehicle customization system though, which allows players to tweak and tune just about everything about their car; drastically changing the way that it looks and drives.

However, players hoping to fit the best parts to their cars will first need to upgrade their garage, as doing so will grant access to much better tuning parts. There's also a trophy/achievement that players can earn for fully upgrading Rydell's Rydes, which further incentivizes them to take the time to upgrade the garage in Need For Speed Unbound.

Thankfully, upgrading the garage in Need For Speed Unbound is a relatively straightforward process, with players simply needing to enter the Performance tab of the Rides menu and then select the "Upgrade Garage" option. From there, they'll be given the choice of three new upgrades, each of which grants access to a new set of parts. These won't come cheap though, with the final one costing a cool $100,000. For those wondering, the Sport Upgrade is unlocked by default.

How Important Are Garage Upgrades in Need For Speed Unbound?

Ultimately, players will want to unlock the Elite Upgrade at some point during their playthrough, but when exactly they do so will depend on how much tweaking they plan on doing and how often they plan on changing cars. If, for example, players want to soup up their starter car and turn it into one of the fastest cars in Need For Speed Unbound, they'll likely want to spend money upgrading the garage first rather than fitting Sport parts only to upgrade them again later once Pro, Super, and Elite parts become available.

However, for those who plan on switching cars often there isn't as much incentive to upgrade the garage right away. Granted, the Pro Upgrade is a bit of a no-brainer due to its modest price, but saving up for a new car may well be more important than dropping 50 or 100 Gs on the Super or Elite upgrades, particularly when money is still tight. Once they reach a point where they're rolling in cash and find themselves wanting to skip sessions though, players can start to think about paying for the last two upgrades and unlocking the Rydell's Rydes Trophy/Achievement.

Need for Speed Unbound is available on PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC.
