  • NBA 2K24 has become the second-lowest-rated game on Steam due to numerous issues and disappointments from fans.
  • The game's aggressive microtransactions and bad PC port are two major reasons for its low scores.
  • Players may have a better experience on PS5 or Xbox Series X, as they offer better stability, graphics, and crossplay, unlike the PC version.

NBA 2K24 managed to become the second-lowest-rated game ever released on Steam after a fairly weak launch. Unfortunately, several issues plague the PC version of the title, and fans are very disappointed with the new NBA 2K24, whose poster boy is Kobe Bryant.

Recently released back on September 8, NBA 2K24 is the new yearly release of the famous basketball franchise. Due to many issues, however, the game is a far cry from the best NBA games ever made, such as NBA 2K11 and NBA 2K16, and the low score is proof of that.

Right now, NBA 2K24 has 2,647 reviews on Steam, sitting with an Overwhelming Negative score of 10%. This is enough to put it as the second-worst-rated game of all time on Steam, according to Steam250’s Hall of Shame, which tracks the games with the overall worst scores on the digital platform.

There are many possible reasons why the game managed to gain such low scores, including the constant yearly releases with few improvements, but two of them seem to stand out: microtransactions and a bad PC port. First, it’s not hard to find people criticizing how aggressive the microtransactions in the title are, which gets in the way of the experience, as gamers feel forced to spend more money on what is already a $60 title. The other issue is that, no matter how powerful their rig is, PC players do not have access to the best version of the basketball title, which is only available for PS5 and Xbox Series X, consoles which are almost three years old at this point.

The only game with a worse score than NBA 2K24 is Blizzard’s Overwatch 2. With over 183,000 reviews at this moment, Overwatch 2 sits at a score of 10% approval on Steam, but slightly below NBA 2K24. Some of the reasons for the score included not being innovative enough when compared to its predecessor (just like NBA 2K24), and bad monetization practices, which seem to be at the core of why these games are being criticized so fiercely by their player bases.

Anyone who still wants to give NBA 2K24 a try would probably get a better experience on PS5 or Xbox Series X. Not only do these platforms offer better overall stability and graphics, but also have crossplay for NBA 2K24, a feature that was eagerly expected by fans of the franchise but was left out of PC and last-gen consoles.

NBA 2K24 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
