Naruto has no shortage of characters with monstrous powers who have done unbelievable things. Uchiha Madara manipulates the nine-tailed beast, Pain Nagato destroys Konoha by himself, Orochimaru moves from one body to the next, and Kabuto controls zombie ninjas, just to name a few.
While those people have certainly done impressive feats, they can’t compare to what the Gold and Silver brothers have done throughout their lives. Here are some of the most impressive things that they have done that make them deserve to be remembered forever in the annals of history.
Casually Wields the Four Treasure Tools
The gold and silver brothers, also known as Ginkaku and Kinkaku, are two ninjas from Kumogakure (Village Hidden in the Clouds). They were active from before the First Great Ninja War until around the time the Third Raikage ruled over the Kumogakure. They are ruthless ninjas who are known for their absurd physical prowess and incredibly large chakra reserves. On top of superior physical abilities, they are also famous for using four of the Five Treasure tools during combat.
The Five Treasure tools are a set of five powerful items that were made by the legendary Sage of the Six Path himself. There’s Bashosen, a giant fan that can generate five basic nature elements. There’s Benihisago, a gourd that can take somebody’s word soul and trap them inside the gourd. Kokinjo is a thick rope that can draw out anybody’s word soul simply by letting them touch the rope. There’s also Shichiseiken, a large sword that can sever the word soul from a human’s body. Lastly, Kohaku no Johei is a large pot that can seal anybody inside if they respond when the wielder calls out their name. Apart from the Kohaku no Johei that is held by the village, the brothers use the other four tools heavily in combat.
Although these treasure tools have such remarkable abilities, only a handful of people can use them because these tools drain so much chakra. If a regular ninja merely touches these tools, their chakra will be gone in a matter of seconds. Kinkaku and Ginkaku can casually wield the four treasure tools because they are actually descendants of the legendary Sage of the Six Paths, which is why they have such a large pool of chakra. Thanks to that, the Gold and Silver brothers earned their notoriety and killed a lot of people with these tools.
Surviving Inside the Nine-Tailed Beast's Stomach
As two of the strongest ninjas in their village, Kinkaku and Ginkaku are tasked to hunt and seal the most powerful tailed-beast in the world, the nine-tailed beast. With treasure tools on their hands and hearts that are brimming with confidence and enthusiasm, they go towards their mission. Unfortunately for them, the nine-tailed beast proved to be a much stronger opponent than they ever thought before. And in the middle of this brutal fight, the nine-tailed swallowed these two brothers whole.
Any normal human being will already be dead at that point. Even if they somehow magically survive the bite, being swallowed alive and drowning in the beast’s stomach acid will surely kill them. But that is not the case at all with these two. Not only do they survive the whole ordeal, but Kinkaku and Ginkaku manage to stay inside the nine-tailed stomach for two whole weeks. As if that’s not shocking enough, they consume the inside of the nine-tailed stomach to survive during those crazy times until the nine-tailed beast finally has enough and spits them back out.
Interestingly, an unbelievable story is not the only thing that the gold and silver brothers brought back from the nine-tailed stomach. It seems that by consuming part of the nine-tailed organ, these brothers somehow manage to gain some of the beast’s immense chakra as well. Because of that, Kinkaku and Ginkaku’s chakra are practically indistinguishable from the nine-tailed chakra. Furthermore, they can also use those chakras to increase their strength and transform into the version 2 form, just like an actual jinchuriki.
Killing the Second Hokage
Apart from being able to wield the legendary treasure tools or even survive inside the nine-tailed gut for two weeks, the gold and silver brothers’ greatest achievement is arguably that time when they nearly kill the second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, during a peace treaty between Konoha and Kumogakure.
Kinkaku and Ginkaku are arguably at the peak of their ability at the time and feel like they are better suited to rule over the village. So they execute a bold coup d'état during the peace treaty thinking that it’s a great chance to kill two high-profile ninjas at the same time. Unfortunately for them, they lose and are forced to leave the village as traitors. However, they manage to bring both the Second Hokage and the Second Raikage to death's door.
Years later, Kinkaku founded a group of elite ninjas from Kumogakure called the Kinkaku Force. During the First Ninja World War, the Kinkaku Force successfully cornered the second Hokage’s group. In order to save the member of his team, the Second Hokage acts as the decoy and ends up facing the Kinkaku Force alone. The Second Hokage perished in this battle.
Kinkaku may not have faced the Second Hokage alone, and it’s unclear whether Ginkaku participated in that battle or not. One thing’s for sure, this unbelievable achievement is more than enough for their names to be forever etched in the history of Kumogakure as some of the finest ninjas from the village. From that day forward, the Gold and Silver Brothers are known as the Two Lights of Kumogakure.
