Forbidden Jutsu are special techniques that grant great power to the user, however, they either come at a huge price or pose a significant threat to the world. Due to the nature of these techniques, they're forbidden from being used or practiced, however, several shinobi in Naruto decide to train these techniques to attain greater power.
As such, these shinobi in Naruto excel in the usage of Forbidden Jutsu. The likes of Orochimaru, Tobirama Senju, among many others made use of several forbidden techniques throughout the story, some of which could have brought the age of shinobi to its end.
Updated December 18, 2021, by Rei Penber: Although Forbidden Jutsu are quite dangerous, many characters in Naruto find ways to make use of them in combat anyway. While some find ways around its downsides, others do so by putting their lives on the line. As such, these strong-willed characters deserve to be mentioned on the list, and with that, we've made a few additions to the list of the Forbidden Jutsu users in the story.
14 Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu Splits Chakra Multiple Times
Multi shadow-clone jutsu is a technique utilized by none other than series protagonist Naruto Uzumaki, all thanks to the massive chakra reserves that he possesses. Normally, splitting the chakra more than twice or thrice is considered to be very dangerous. As multi shadow-clone jutsu does it numerous times, it puts the user at a massive risk.
Thankfully, Naruto's massive chakra reserves see to it that he isn't harmed by using this technique. Still, it remains a Forbidden Jutsu thanks to its dangerous nature.
13 Mutually Multiplying Explosive Tags Creates Deadly Explosions
Possibly one of the most powerful yet dangerous jutsu in the story was introduced to the fans by none other than Tobirama Senju, the Second Hokage. At some point in his life, he created the Mutually Multiplying Explosive Tags jutsu, which allowed him to use Edo Tensei bodies as a source of paper to create near-infinite explosive tags which attach themselves to the body of the target.
As one might expect, this causes near-infinite explosions, which are extremely deadly. This technique can also be used by a living person; however, unlike Edo Tensei, they won't recover after the jutsu has been performed.
12 Iwagakure Kinjutsu Creates Items Out Of Chakra
Iwagakure had quite a powerful Forbidden Jutsu that was eventually stolen by Deidara before he left the village. This jutsu allows a user to create things out of their chakra and mold them according to their will, as seen with Deidara, who used it to produce clay.
By combining it with the mighty Explosion Release, Deidara gave birth to the Explosive Clay, which was his trademark. During his fight against Sasuke Uchiha, he used his ultimate C0 technique, which was derived from this jutsu as well.
11 Earth Grudge Fear Offers Regenerative Powers
Earth Grudge Fear was a forbidden jutsu in Takigakure, and was eventually stolen by none other than Kakuzu before he defected from the village. This jutsu gave him the ability to manipulate black threads from inside his body and use it to sew any injuries within seconds, regardless of how serious the injury was.
What's more, it also gave Kakuzu several lives, as he could store up to four extra hearts in special masks on his back. These masks also allowed him to use all the nature transformations and gave him extremely powerful jutsu as well. Without a doubt, this technique is powerful enough to be considered a forbidden jutsu.
10 The Cursed Seal Of Heaven Offers A Great Power Upgrade
The Cursed Seal of Heaven, along with the Cursed Seal of Earth, is the most powerful of Orochimaru's Juinjutsu. It grants tremendous power to those who are branded with it, such as Sasuke Uchiha or Anko Mitarashi.
Once used, the user gains a great amount of chakra, which is likely powered by Senjutsu, and receives a great physical boost. Sasuke Uchiha was able to match Naruto Uzumaki's Tailed Beast power when the two fought in the Valley of the End for the first time.
9 The Rasenshuriken Damages The User's Chakra System
The Rasenshuriken was developed by Naruto Uzumaki during his training under Kakashi Hatake. It is an extremely powerful Jutsu strong enough to take out most enemies in a single strike, however, it poses a great risk to the user as well.
Although the Rasenshuriken can destroy the opponents at a cellular level with countless cuts, it also damages Naruto's chakra system. As such, this technique was forbidden by Tsunade Senju, the Fifth Hokage. Thankfully, Naruto got around its dangers by learning to throw the Rasenshuriken during his Sage Mode training at Mount Myoboku.
8 The Byakugou Seal Grants Great Healing Power
The Byakugou Seal is accessible only to a handful of ninjas in the Naruto world, such as Sakura Haruno and Tsunade Senju. It is extremely difficult to achieve as it requires precise chakra control to store it in one place over a significant period of time.
Once awakened, the Byakugou gives a tremendous power and chakra boost to the user, thus boosting their physical capabilities by quite a lot. What's more, this just also enables the Creation Rebirth: Byakugou no Jutsu, which automatically heals the user's injuries without even weaving any hand signs.
7 Chiyo's Reanimation Jutsu Can Bring A Person Back To Life
Chiyo was one of the elders of Sunagakure and she played a major role in the Kazekage Rescue arc of the story. After Gaara lost Shukaku to the Akatsuki, he ended up losing his life, as expected of a Jinchuriki.
However, Chiyo used her Reanimation Jutsu to bring him back to life by pouring her own chakra and life force into him. Evidently, this Jutsu can bring the dead back to life once again, however, the price to pay for that power is the user's own life and is, thus, immense.
6 The Reaper Death Seal Can Seal Anyone Away
Created by the Uzumaki Clan, the Reaper Death Seal is an extremely powerful Fuinjutsu that can seal anyone away. It was first used by Minato Namikaze to seal half of the Nine-Tails within himself when Obito Uchiha attacked Konohagakure.
During Orochimaru's invasion of Konohagakure, Hiruzen Sarutobi used it to seal away his arms and take away all his Jutsu in the process. While this technique offers great power, the price to pay for it is the user's life. It is believed that both the user and the target's soul fight until eternity in the Shinigami's belly.
5 The Eight Inner Gates Released Formation Offers Great Power
The Eight Inner Gates Released Formation is the strongest power offered by the Eight Inner Gates. Might Guy accessed this power during his fight against Madara Uchiha. As seen during their clash, this technique offers power that is several times greater than the strength of the Five Kage combined.
Guy became strong enough to overwhelm even Madara Uchiha in battle during the Fourth Great Ninja War. What's more, his strongest attack, Night Guy, was powerful enough to nearly kill Madara.
4 Izanami Is One Of The Greatest Genjutsu
Izanami was used by Itachi Uchiha during his fight against Kabuto Yakushi in the Fourth Great Ninja War. This technique is forbidden, as it blinds the user in one eye, however, in exchange, it grants the power of a tremendous Genjutsu that, once activated, traps the user in an infinite loop of events.
The only way to break free from the Genjutsu is to acknowledge one's real self, meaning once activated, the caster of the technique always wins.
3 Izanagi Is The Uchiha's Trump Card
Izanagi is an extremely powerful Jutsu that only a Sharingan user can access. This technique is known to be incredibly powerful as it allows the user to turn an illusion into reality, essentially rewriting the laws of nature.
Mostly, this Jutsu is used to alter the events of death and bring them back to life by rewriting the event as an illusion. Danzo showed some skill in its usage, while Obito could continue to use it for 5 minutes. Madara Uchiha brought himself back to life after losing to Hashirama by sealing it in one of his eyes.
2 The Edo Tensei Is The Most Dangerous Jutsu
The Edo Tensei was created by Tobirama Senju, the Second Hokage of Konohagakure, and later perfected by the likes of Orochimaru and Kabuto. It is an incredibly dangerous Jutsu that brings a person back to life and puts them under the control of the user.
Furthermore, the bodies that are brought back to life can heal indefinitely, meaning the only way to deal with them is to seal them away. Kabuto Yakushi could start a massive war using its power.
1 The Rinne Tensei Can Bring People Back To Life
The Rinne Tensei is a technique accessible only through the Outer Path of the Rinnegan. It is an extremely powerful Jutsu that can bring anyone back to life. When Nagato Uzumaki used it, he brought back several hundred people at once at the cost of his own life.
Meanwhile, Obito Uchiha used it to bring Madara Uchiha back to life in the Fourth Great Ninja War. Interestingly, it is possible that the Jutsu doesn't always result in death as according to Konan, Nagato could have survived even after bringing hundreds of people back to life if his chakra levels were higher.
