Masashi Kishimoto is the creator of Naruto, which is one of the most popular manga series of all time. The first part of the series is immaculate, and it's uniform with its quality. It is filled with incredible moments, and when it ended, there was a great deal of expectation from Naruto Shippuden. Sadly, the quality suffered a drastic drop and the consistency was lost. There were instances, where the story was outstanding, but the drops were very sharp.

The Fourth Great Ninja War is arguably the biggest highlight in the series, and it is mainly due to the numerous big names that were involved. It was during the Fourth Great Ninja War that the fans saw Madara in action for the first time. Madara's introduction left everyone in a daze as he got ready to pummel hundreds of ninjas on his own. Madara's backstory and his powers, all pointed toward him being the final villain in the story, but that didn't come to pass as he was betrayed by Black Zetsu. Later, it was revealed that Black Zetsu had manipulated Madara Uchiha to ensure the rebirth of Kaguya Otsustuki. This decision by Kishimoto had several consequences.

Forced To Drag The Story

Madara Uchiha Stabbed Naruto

Before Kaguya's revival, everything was going well. It felt like as soon as Sasuke and Naruto defeated Madara, the two ninjas would go on and resolve their own problems. However, Kaguya's introduction to the story changed things as she was much more powerful than Madara or any other villain that had been a part of the story. Madara's strength was laughable in comparison to Kaguya Otsutsuki. After Sasuke and Naruto received new powers from Hagoromo Otsutsuki, they were toying around with Madara. When the duo fought against Kaguya Otsutsuki, it was a completely different story. Kaguya was able to overwhelm both of them with minimal effort.

So, to help Naruto and Sasuke, Kishimoto decided to use Obito, Sakura, and Kakashi. When Sasuke was thrown into a completely different dimension by Kaguya, he had to be rescued by Obito and Sakura. On another occasion, Obito saved Kakashi, Naruto, and Sasuke by sacrificing himself. This completed Obito's redemption and led to the infamous scene where Naruto called Obito a "hero," which caused a huge scandal.

The reason behind the backlash was the fact that Obito was responsible for killing Naruto's parents and the deaths of several others, and yet Naruto called him a hero. Obito's redemption felt forced, and no fan would have complained if he died normally. However, Obito's influence did not stop here. After his death, Obito gave his Six Paths chakra and eyes to Kakashi, which allowed the latter to fight Kaguya. With the newfound power, Kakashi caused serious damage to Kaguya, and he played a crucial role in defeating her. After putting in a lot of effort, Team 7 was finally able to reseal Kaguya Otsutsuki.

Additional Problems With Kaguya

Kaguya with her Byakugan

By introducing Kaguya Otsutsuki, Masashi Kishimoto brought in the Otsutsuki clan. The Otsutsuki Clan is a clan of extraterrestrial beings, who are far superior to ordinary humans. With Kaguya coming into the picture, Kishimoto was able to set things up for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. The series is the sequel to Naruto, and the plot mainly revolves around the Otsutsuki clan. So far, multiple Otsutsuki clan members have been introduced in Boruto, and all of them possess ridiculous amounts of power.

The most powerful among them was Isshiki Otsutsuki. Even in his weakened state, Isshiki had enough power to take on both Naruto and Sasuke at the same time. It is fair to say that Isshiki absolutely humiliated both the ninjas quite easily. To put that in perspective, adult Naruto and Sasuke would have little to no problem in taking down Kaguya. So, the introduction of Kaguya and the rest of the Otsutsuki clan completely destroyed the power scaling in Naruto.

If the power of only a few Otsutsuki clan members is compared to all the strongest ninjas in the series, there is no doubt that the Otsutsuki clan members would win without a problem. Since it is a battle shonen series, the stronger the character, the stronger the hype they generate.

Very few people care about the normal ninjas in the series because the overpowered Otsutsuki are far more intriguing. The introduction of these extraterrestrials has taken the series in a completely different direction.

Saving Grace

Hagoromo Otsutsuki Naruto

The introduction of the Otsutsuki Clan has been beneficial to the progress of the story. It enabled Ikemoto to make Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, which provided Naruto fans with more content. However, it is important to remember that there was no need to make another battle shonen series.

Since the next generation was growing in a better environment, the writers could have created a slice of life anime. It could have focused on Naruto's family and shown his day-to-day interactions with other people. It would have unquestionably attracted a lot of attention considering Naruto never had a normal childhood.

He was deprived of a family, so he didn't get an opportunity to see what a family is like until he married Hinata. In no way is Boruto a bad series, but the writers could have taken another approach, and this is something that will always be brought up.
