The Uchiha Clan is among the most powerful clans in the entire Naruto series. The clan has been responsible for producing some of the strongest ninjas in history. The clan was feared throughout the world, especially during the time of the Warring States when all the clans were fighting each other. It was at this time that Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha joined hands to bring an end to the continuous fighting. This resulted in the creation of the Hidden Leaf, and it was actually Madara Uchiha who coined the name. However, Madara soon grew unhappy due to the villagers giving him the cold shoulder. Eventually, he decided to leave the village and when he asked his own clan members to help him, they refused.

After Madara left the village, he was eventually defeated by Hashirama Senju. During Hashirama's reign, the Uchiha enjoyed many privileges, but as soon as Hashirama died, Tobirama started to ostracize the Uchiha clan. Unlike his brother, Tobirama believed that the Uchiha were a threat, and it would be better to keep them on the outskirts of the village. This decision worked for some time, but in the long run, it caused problems for the entire village. Tobirama's racist ideas eventually led to the massacre of the entire Uchiha clan, but was every Uchiha evil? The answer is no. Tobirama was too uptight to give the clan a chance, and they were treated unfairly. Over the course of the series, it became apparent that some of the most loyal ninjas of the Hidden Leaf belonged to the Uchiha clan, and one such person was Shisui Uchiha.

Who Was Shisui?

Shisui's parentage is a big mystery as there is hardly any information available on any of his family members. The names of his parents were never revealed. Due to the poor health of his father, Shisui had to become the main source of income. Shisui was different from most Uchiha as he had managed to break the Curse of Hatred. He was a descendant of Kagami Uchiha, who loyally served the Second Hokage. Shisui was extremely loving, and not many Naruto characters can compare to his level of selflessness. He always tried to ensure that there would be peace in the village. Shisui was very close to Itachi, and he thought of him as a brother. Like Itachi, Shisui was exposed to the horrors of war at an extremely young age. Shisui awakened his Mangekyou Sharingan after watching the death of his best friend. Shisui mastered the Sharingan, which made him a very dangerous opponent.

In addition to his dojutsu, Shisui was proficient at using the Body Flicker Technique. His mastery of the Body Flicker earned him the nickname "Shisui of the Body Flicker." He became famous and ninjas throughout the world feared him. Danzo Shimura considered Shisui to be the strongest Uchiha of his time, which is a big compliment considering Danzo was one of the most powerful ninjas in the Hidden Leaf, and he had lived to see some of the most incredible fighters in history. As Shisui had awakened the Mangekyou Sharingan, he could also use the susanoo, but he never got an opportunity to use it in the manga.

The Ultimate Genjutsu

Shisui Using His Mangekyo Sharingan

Shisui's Mangekyou Sharingan granted him access to Kotoamatsukami, which is an extremely potent genjutsu. It is the second strongest genjutsu in the series, with only the Infinite Tsukuyomi being stronger. With the Kotoamatsukami, Shisui could enter the mind of the target and manipulate them into doing things. While under the influence of this genjutsu, the target had no idea that they were being controlled by someone else.

The genjutsu was so coveted that Danzo decided to steal it as he thought that Shisui could also use it on the elders of the Hidden Leaf. Like his teacher, Tobirama Senju, Danzo had a great deal of hatred toward the Uchiha clan. He could not fathom a member of the Uchiha clan having such immense power. Unfortunately, Danzo succeeded in getting one of Shisui's eyes, but he could never use it like the Uchiha.

Untimely End

Shisui loses one eye

Shisui Uchiha was respected by many people, but no one admired him more than Itachi Uchiha. Itachi was inspired by Shisui and his way of thinking, and the Uchiha prodigy ended up taking the same road as Shisui. After entrusting his remaining eye to Itachi, Shisui committed suicide. This incident caused Itachi to awaken his Mangekyou Sharingan. The eye that Shisui left Itachi would prove to be pivotal later on in the series.

When Itachi met Naruto, the Akatsuki member placed the crow with Shisui's eye inside Naruto. Itachi had programmed it in such a way that whenever Naruto met Sasuke, it would activate and put Sasuke under genjutsu. This was a smart idea, but Kishimoto did not let that happen. Instead, it came in handy when Itachi was reanimated by Kabuto. Kabuto had bettered the Impure World Reincarnation, so it was almost impossible to break free from it, but since Itachi had programmed the crow to come out whenever Naruto made contact with Itachi's eyes.

So, when Itachi bumped into Naruto, the crow came out and put Itachi under genjutsu. This genjutsu was so strong that Itachi was freed from the command of Kabuto. While being under the influence of Kotoamatsukami, Itachi saved Naruto and Killer B from Nagato Uzumaki. After defeating Nagato, Itachi went towards Kabuto's location in order to undo the Impure World Reincarnation. So, in a way, Shisui helped to save the entire world from destruction by giving his remaining eye to Itachi. Shisui left behind an incredible legacy, and even though most villagers don't remember his contribution, he will live forever in the hearts of the fans.
