The gaming industry has seen more than a few large-scale acquisitions recently. French publisher Nacon has now become the latest company to make an acquisition after many industry heavyweights had done the same. Nacon already owns numerous studios with another set to join the company's ranks soon.

This move was not particularly surprising as Nacon was already set to be the publisher of Daedalic Entertainment's latest project, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. Daedalic Entertainment is likely best known for the Deponia series and is set to be bought out by Nacon for around $60 million. The acquisition may seem small scale in comparison to Sony and Microsoft's multi-billion-dollar buy-outs, however, Nacon is slowly but surely growing its list of subsidiaries.

Nacon already owns Spiders, the developer of the sleeper hit Greedfall, and the upcoming game called Steelrising and a few other smaller developers such as Cyanide, which produced Blood Bowl 3. Now Daedalic Entertainment is also set to join the growing company.

The move could end up being a surprisingly good move for the company, as there has been a decent amount of hype behind Daedalic Entertainment's latest project. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is set to release in Fall this year, which has got a good few fans excited, as the game will give Lord of the Rings fans a deeper look into the lore behind one of the most iconic characters the franchise has.

Last year in December, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum received a new cinematic trailer at The Game Awards. The game seems to allow the player to choose between a variety of different ways to approach situations. The character's famous split personality lends itself well to this mechanic, as players can choose to approach situations stealthily and cautiously by siding with Smeagol or instead choose to cause as much chaos and harm as possible by siding with Gollum.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is not the only exciting upcoming title that Nacon is set to publish, as the company revealed Robocop: Rogue City last year at Nacon Connect. Teyon, which is another subsidiary of Nacon, is set to be developing the game. The company has already had success with another classic sci-fi franchise in the form of 2019's Terminator: Resistance, which was received well by fans. Nacon seems to be building a decent portfolio of subsidiaries and the latest edition of Daedalic Entertainment can only strengthen this roster.
