Moving up the tech tree in My Time At Sandrock is a lengthy process, and it often involves the completion of quests and meeting certain requirements. This guide outlines everything players need to do in order to get Iron Ore.

Where to Find Iron Ore in My Time At Sandrock

The bridge leading to Gecko Station in My Time At Sandrock

Iron Ore is mostly found inside ruins and dungeons — namely, Paradise Lost and Gecko Station. Both of these are locked until much later in the game, and players will need to make significant progress in the main quest line before these become accessible.

Gecko Station will be the first among the two that builders will likely unlock. To access it, players must reach the Belly of the Beast mission, which is the final quest in the Geegler story arc, which starts with Pitching In and Moisture Farm Blues. This mission will have players defeating the Geegler President within the Gecko Station Ruins itself.

To return to the Gecko Station Ruins after the Belly of the Beast mission, players must then complete In Trusses We Trust. This will have them build two Trusses in order to repair the broken bridge. Once access across the canyon is restored, Gecko Station Ruins will once again be reachable. However, entering the ruins costs 300 Gols per week, and resetting zones costs 20 Gols.

Iron Ore will spawn as nodes inside the Gecko Station Ruins and Paradise Lost, and they must be quarried with at least a Bronze Pickhammer. Ores are fairly abundant throughout the first four floors of the ruins, and players will encounter other materials like Data Discs and Power Stones.

When spelunking through the Gecko Station Ruins, players are advised to gather Graphite, Manganese, and Chromium as well. These can be mixed with Iron to create Steel, Manganese Steel, and Chromium Bars respectively. All four of these materials can be gathered inside the Gecko Station Ruins — Graphite can be found on all floors, while Manganese and Chromium are exclusive to floors five-eleven.

These bars are required for a variety of recipes. Players will want to upgrade their tools to Iron first by smelting Steel Bars. They will then be able to use these tools to gather the rest of the required components for Manganese and Chromium-tier equipment.
