My Hero Ultra Rumble: 7 Tips For Beginners

My Hero Ultra Rumble lets players step into the shoes of My Hero Academia characters for a thrilling showdown. Here's how beginners can excel.

When an anime franchise is as long-running as My Hero Academia, it’s only natural that it has die-hard fans who are going to appreciate every single detail. And My Hero Ultra Rumble is no different since it has a fair amount of cool Easter Eggs and secrets that only players who are familiar with its source material are going to notice.

8 Present Mic Is The Announcer

Present Mic, as seen in My Hero Academia
  • Manga Debut: Chapter 3
  • Anime Debut: Episode 3

The moment that players boot up the game, they’re immediately going to hear a familiar voice. This is Hizashi Yamada, better known by his Hero Name, Present Mic. Not only is he a Pro Hero in the series, but he’s also a teacher at U.A. High School. With his quirk, Present Mic can increase the volume of his voice to destructive levels.

Played by Hiroyuki Yoshino in Japanese and David Trosko in English, Present Mic is the announcer of the My Hero Academia anime, introducing each character and their quirks every time they’re on-screen. My Hero Ultra Rumble was clever enough to include Present Mic as the announcer of every match. The only question is, will he ever be added as a playable character and announce himself?

7 Mei Hatsume In The Settings Menu

Mei Hatsume in the Settings Menu of My Hero Ultra Rumble
  • Manga Debut: Chapter 25
  • Anime Debut: Episode 15

Players will quickly find out that My Hero Ultra Rumble is filled to the brim with iconic characters from the original series, many of whom are not playable yet. Mei Hatsume is another one that players will notice if they explore the different menus of the game, as she’s heavily featured in the Settings Menu.

Mei Hatsume is a young inventor from the Department of Support at U.A. High School, which means that she fits perfectly in the Settings Menu of this game. Just like Present Mic, this is not just a meaningless cameo, but one that actually makes sense if players are familiar with the character.

The staff of U.A High School as easter eggs in My Hero Ultra Rumble: Thirteen, Principal Nezu and Lunch Rush
  • Principal Nezu
  • Recovery Girl
  • Pro Hero Thirteen
  • Lunch Rush

The Unforeseen Simulation Joint (Also known as USJ) is the only map available in My Hero Ultra Rumble so far. This is a training facility located in U.A. High School, recognizable as being the setting of the final arc in the first season of the show. So it makes sense that the staff of the school itself is heavily featured in different imagery across the map.

These are the best starting spots in the battle royale game My Hero Ultra Rumble.

Players can find several signs with adorable illustrations of Principal Nezu, posters of the school’s nurse, Recovery Girl, and even some photos of the Pro Hero Thirteen, who was first introduced during the USJ arc. But what may be the most obscure character is Lunch Rush, the school's chef, who can also be seen in some food-related signs.

5 Kota Is One Of The Civilians

Kota Izumi as one of the civilian NPCs in My Hero Ultra Rumble
  • Manga Debut: Chapter 70
  • Anime Debut: Episode 40

Something that sets My Hero Ultra Rumble apart from other Battle Royale games is its heavy focus on heroism. Players not only have to defeat other characters in order to win, but they also have to rescue many civilians that can be found across the stage. And while most of them present generic designs, there’s one special civilian who is not easy to find.

Kota Izumi is the nephew of the Pro Hero Mandalay and a character who had a big impact on the protagonist of the series, Deku, when he rescued him from the villain Muscular. Because of this, Kota can be found in the USJ as one of the many civilians. Although he’s very well hidden, players will have to look everywhere in order to find and rescue him.

4 Comic Onomatopoeia

A "Float" onomatopoeia pops when Ochako Uraraka uses her quirk in My Hero Ultra Rumble
  • Representation of sound and action

With its themes of superheroes and heroism, it is no surprise that My Hero Academia is based on comics by both Marvel and DC Comics. Because of this, even the anime often uses onomatopoeia as a tool to express different sounds. To the point that there’s even an entire character named Manga Fukidashi, centered on this practice.

Because this is a video game with sound, there’s no real need for My Hero Ultra Rumble to include onomatopoeia, but it does so anyway, in ways that may go unnoticed. They can be seen in several special actions in the game, like when Ochako Uraraka uses her Zero Gravity, or when Katsuki Bakugo uses his explosions. This clever detail not only references its source material, but it also references the comic books that inspired the entire series.

3 Similar Music To The Anime

  • Anime Music Artists: Porno Graffitti

The soundtrack of the My Hero Academia anime is easily recognizable because it sounds like something straight from any superhero movie. So, it would be expected for My Hero Ultra Rumble to use the same music as the anime, right? Sadly, this is not the case, since the rights for the soundtrack are held by Toho and Bones.

From the menus to the matches themselves, anyone who has watched enough episodes of the series will be aware of these similarities.

2 Denki Kaminari Short-Circuits

Denki Kaminari short circuits after exceeding his wattage limit
  • Manga Debut: Chapter 5
  • Anime Debut: Episode 5

One of the playable characters in My Hero Ultra Rumble is Denki Kaminari. He's one of the many students in Class 1-A, who is training to become a Pro Hero, thanks to his powerful Quirk, Electrification. This power lets him charge and emit electricity from his body, but it comes with a catch: If Denki exceeds his wattage limit; his brain will short-circuit, and he’ll become dumb for a brief period of time.

If players use Denki’s Beta Quirk, known as 1.3 Million Volts, for an extended period of time, this very same side effect will occur, as Denki will enter his dumb state, forcing the player to move slowly for about 8 seconds. This is a clever way to implement a character’s weakness into its core gameplay.

1 Dabi’s Hero Costume References His Brother

The colors in Dabi's Hero Costume is a reference to Shoto Todoroki
  • Manga Debut: Chapter 39
  • Anime Debut: Episode 23

As expected from the Battle Royale genre, My Hero Ultra Rumble has several outfits and color changes for the playable characters, which can be acquired either with in-game or real-world currency. All the Hero characters in the game have a Villain Costume and all the Villain characters have a Hero costume, in reference to the other side.

But Dabi is the villain with the most interesting costume change, as his Hero Costume features him in a white coat with a red shirt underneath. These are the exact same colors as Shoto Todoroki’s hair. This can’t be a coincidence, seeing as one of the most shocking plot twists of My Hero Academia is the reveal that Dabi is Touya Todoroki, Shoto’s brother.
