Highlights

  • Two Quirks combined to form One For All - an incredibly powerful ability passed through generations to Deku.
  • Smokescreen, Blackwhip, Float, Gear Shift, Fa Jin, and Danger Sense are some Quirks within One For All.
  • Deku mastered these Quirks over time, each bringing unique powers and utility, but eventually lost them.

My Hero Academia's One For All is an incredibly powerful Quirk that was created when All For One gave a strength stockpiling Quirk to his younger brother, Yoichi, thinking he didn't have a Quirk. Little did he know that Yoichi actually had a Quirk that allowed power to be passed down, and the two Quirks combined to become what is known as the One For All.

My Hero Academia: Every American Hero in the Franchise

With America being a major influence in the hero world, it comes as no surprise that several American Heroes have made their way into the narrative.

Over the years, this Quirk has had many users, however, only Izuku Midoriya, the 9th user of this power, has been able to bring out its true powers. Under Izuku, One For All is at its strongest and within it lie several other Quirks that the former users of this power possessed.

Updated on May 27, 2024, by Rei Penber: The One For All is a very special Quirk and fans have seen this power being highlighted time and again in the series, as is expected of the strongest and the most important ability to exist in the manga. The One For All was a power stockpiling Quirk for the longest time, however, given that this power has had many users, their quirk factor got mixed in the One For All, and it has, since then, become an amazing ability that has given Deku access to multiple other abilities as well.

These abilities are quite powerful and, over time, Deku has gone on to master every single one of them. This list already goes over all the Quirks within the One For All, but things have changed quite a lot in the Final Saga of the series, and, as a result, it has now been updated.

6 Smokescreen

Vestige: En

Deku Smokescreen Quirk

Formerly belonging to the sixth user of One For All, Smokescreen is quite a useful Quirk that is now in the possession of Izuku Midoriya. He awakened this power after the events of the Paranormal Liberation War arc wrapped up and those close to him were finally made aware of the truth about his powers.

Smokescreen is a very useful ability as it allows Izuku to produce a very thick cloud of smoke from his body. This smoke can cause a lot of problems for the enemies as they can't pick up on Deku's location at all. At the same time, Deku can then catch them by surprise due to their obscured vision. The key to this Quirk is balance and, if used excessively, it can cause the same problems for Deku as it does for his enemies.

Smokescreen Utility: 5/10

Smokescreen was recently awakened by Izuku Midoriya and while it certainly is quite a useful Quirk, especially in combat, its utility isn't as high as the other abilities offered by the One For All. As a Hero, there aren't many instances where Deku needs to rely on it. In combat, it can certainly offer him an edge, however, given the power that One For All already holds, its need isn't all that high.

Current Status

It can be said that Smokescreen is one of the least useful powers that reside within the One For All. For this reason, Deku did not feel the loss of this Quirk all that much in My Hero Academia's Final War Saga. As was the case with the vast majority of the Quirks that were within the One For All, Smokescreen was transferred inside of Shigaraki as well. With that, this quirk has officially been lost by Deku forever.

5 Blackwhip

Vestige: Daigoro Banjo

My Hero Academia Deku Manifests Blackwhip

The very first Quirk that Izuku Midoriya awakened was Blackwhip and he did so in the Joint Training Exam arc of the story. Not knowing what the power was, Izuku struggled to control it at the time, however, after significant training, his control over this power is just as good as One For All.

Blackwhip was originally the Quirk of the sixth user of One For All, Daigoro Banjo, and currently, it allows Izuku to produce tendrils of energy from his body that can be used to grapple onto things and even for long-ranged combat. With its powers, Deku can easily grab his enemies, lift others to safety, and even increase his own mobility, among many other things. Without a doubt, this Quirk is one of the most useful abilities that he possesses at the moment.

Blackwhip Utility: 7/10

Blackwhip was the first Quirk within the One For All that Deku awakened. Due to this Quirk's ability to produce webs of energy that can be used as ropes, this Quirk is quite useful. In combat, it can also be combined with other Quirks and is thus one of the best abilities that Deku possesses. As a Hero ability, its utility is certainly very high.

Current Status

Blackwhip is the first Quirk that was inside the One For All that Deku received, and in My Hero Academia's Final War Saga, fans saw Deku make great use of this power. At this point in the story, Deku can make impeccable use of Blackwhip, and combine it with other vestiges as well. Sadly, this power isn't of much use to Deku at the moment. This is simply down to the fact that Deku has lost all of the vestiges, and black was not going to be any exception in that regard.

4 Float

Vestige: Nana Shimura

Deku Float Quirk

Float formerly belonged to the seventh user of the One For All and the teacher of All Might, Nana Shimura. Just like every other Quirk, this one was passed down to Izuku along with One For All. During the Paranormal Liberation War arc, Deku was finally able to tap into its power when Shigaraki unleashed his Decay Quirk to destroy everyone around him.

These villains shine in MHA's Final War arc.

As the name suggests, Float allows Deku to suspend himself in mid-air. When combined with the power of One For All, he can move in the air at high speeds, which makes it seem like he's flying. Deku's control over this power has dramatically improved over time.

Float Utility: 7/10

Nana Shimura's Float is quite an incredible ability that allows Deku to levitate in mid-air. Considering that his main enemy is Shigaraki, who can cause decay without direct contact, this ability is priceless. It also allows him to fight in mid-air and makes him a much more versatile Hero and thus has high utility.

Current Status

The power of Float resided within Deku for quite a while. However, in the fight against Shigaraki, Deku and Nana were seen inside of Shigaraki's memory world, where Nana was truly horrified after witnessing the horrific past of Shigaraki. As a result, she ended up leaving Deku's body, and now, Float is no longer a Quirk within One For All.

3 Gear Shift

Vestige: Kudo

Deku gear shift my hero academia mha 414

Gear Shift is the newest Quirk awakened by Izuku Midoriya during the events of the Final War arc. When his comrades were fighting for their lives, Deku arrived just in time on the battlefield and saved them and, in doing so, also unleashed a completely new power. Up until this point, he had awakened all the Quirks within the One For All except one, however, with the awakening of the Gearshift Quirk, he now has access to them all. This Quirk first belonged to the second user of One For All. When used, it allows the users to alter speeds instantaneously.

While on paper, this doesn't sound nearly as impressive as it really is, the fact that makes it truly scary is that it completely ignores the laws of inertia, as seen in the fight against All For One when Deku took him on in combat. Initially, this Quirk could not be used on big objects, however, as the One For All quirk boosts every single quirk, Gearshift gets boosted as well. That said, there is a time limit on the usage of this Quirk as it takes a massive toll on the body of the user. According to the second user of One For All, Deku can only maintain it for 5 minutes and after that, his body will start to weaken and potentially even die.

Gearshift Utility: 8/10

Gearshift is an incredibly overpowered ability and it has allowed Deku to contest evenly with the likes of all for one and, in moments, even overwhelm him completely. With its powers, combined with the other abilities that One For All offers, Gearshift is absolutely unstoppable. However, this Quirk is almost always left as a last resort because the toll it takes on the body of the user is excessive. Once utilized, Deku can only fight for 5 minutes and after that, his body will not be left in any condition to continue. With that in mind, the utility of this Quirk isn't all that high. Nonetheless, whenever used, it is most likely going to finish the job and for that reason, it scores high on the utility list.

Current Status

Deku gained control over Gear Shift in the Final War Saga of My Hero Academia, and it certainly gave him a massive advantage in battle, especially when he fought against Shigaraki. However, even though this Quirk was incredibly strong, eventually, Deku ended up losing it. This was down to the fact that Gear Shift had a time limit and after that, it nerfed Deku greatly in battle.

To avoid that, the vestige of Gear Shift willingly moved to Shigaraki's body, and as a result, removed the debuff from Deku. In doing so, however, Deku also lost the power of Gear Shift.

2 Fa Jin

Vestige: Bruce

My Hero Academia Deku Fa Jin Quirk

Fa Jin was formerly wielded by the third user of the One For All and after his death, this Quirk lay within One For All, only to awaken when Izuku received its powers. Out of all the extra abilities that One For All has, Fa Jin remains one of the most impressive.

By repeating regular motion, Fa Jin grants the ability to build up kinetic energy that can be stored within the body for later use. Once unleashed, it grants a significant boost in both strength and speed. The stored energy can be used by Izuku according to his will. What makes this Quirk terrifying is the fact that, when combined with 45% of One For All and the slinging of Blackwhip, the energy generated is equal to that of 100% of One For All.

Fa Jin Utility: 8/10

Fa Jin is a tremendous ability that Izuku possesses. This Quirk gives him extra power and, in combat, that always comes in handy. When combined with the likes of Blackwhip and One For All, it can mimic the same power that All Might once wielded. Fa Jin is, thus, highly useful and as One For All grows stronger, so does this Quirk. Against someone like Shigaraki, it will certainly come in handy.

Current Status

When it comes to raw power, no Quirk within the One For All is as important to Deku as Fa Jin. This Quirk gave him incredible amounts of kinetic energy, but, as was the case with all the other Quirks, it has now been lost as well. Fa Jin was transferred to Shigaraki's body, and with that, Deku is now without this power.

It can be said that the only power Deku has inside of his body right now is the last ember of One For All. Having lost Fa Jin, Deku is now much weaker than before, and his body is not on a level where he can bring out 100% of One For All. Deku is now far from his maximum power, and it will be interesting to see how he mitigates this massive loss in the story going forward.

1 Danger Sense

Vestige: Hikage Shinomori

My Hero Academia Deku Danger Sense Quirk

Also awakened by Deku in the Paranormal Liberation War arc, Danger Sense is quite a useful ability. It was formerly wielded by the fourth user of One For All, Hikage Shinomori. The powers of this Quirk are quite straightforward, as its name suggests.

It grants Deku a sort of sixth sense and allows him to sense any danger that is nearby. As long as the person has malicious intent, Deku will be able to detect it with ease. Those who don't have any ill intentions will not be picked up by this Quirk, even if they're an enemy. Initially, this Quirk caused a lot of pain to Deku when used, however, this can be lowered with further training.

Danger Sense Utility: 9/10

Danger Sense is quite possibly one of the most useful abilities that Deku has awakened. Ever since the Paranormal Liberation War Arc, it has given him the ability to sense all kinds of danger around him moments before something dangerous actually happens. Although it did cause him pain upon being used at first, that seems to have subsided with training and, thus, its usability is incredible in combat. As a Hero, sensing danger allows Deku to prepare for all situations and save as many people as possible. This Quirk is highly useful.

Current Status

In terms of utility, it can be said that Danger Sense was Deku's most important Quirk. This Quirk helped him out greatly in his fight against strong enemies, such as Shigaraki. However, Shigaraki turned the tables on him when he stole Danger Sense from him in the war. With Danger Sense lost, Deku was unable to feel strong attacks incoming or sense negative emotions. This power was utilized by Shigaraki flawlessly and it even allowed him to land a few blows on Deku.
