In the world of My Hero Academia, Nomus are powerful beings created by the villainous Dr. Kyudai Garaki, through the process of human experimentation. The process of creating a Nomu is through injecting multiple quirks into a human corpse.

This causes the corpse to come back to life, but also as a deformed, mindless zombie with extremely powerful abilities. Even though they are alive again, they lack brain functions and are unable to act on their own. The purpose of creating Noums was to create an army of mindless, powerful soldiers for the League Of Villains and henchmen for All For One.

The Birth of The Nomus

Why Were They Created, & What Was Their Purpose?

Nomus are also known as artifical humans and were mass-produced by Dr. Kyudai Garaki and All For One to battle the heroes. The first Nomu ever created was Kurogiri, a high-end Nomu who was created with the corpse of Oboro Shirakumo, a U. A High student who was killed during a battle with a villain during his hero-work studies. Oboro Shirakumo was also a childhood friend of Eraser Head, Shoto Aizawa and Present Mic, Hizashi Yamada. Kurogiri served under All For One's command and also worked for Tomura Shigaraki. Kurogiri however, was capable of free speech and did not possess the strength of the Nomus who were created later.

Dr. Kyudai also worked closely with All For One to create a being capable of going head-to-head with All Might, they worked hidden in the shadows, abducting people and carrying out bio-engineered experiments, creating multiple variations of Nomus and especially the Nomu that went head-to-head with All Might, also known as the U.S.J Arc Nomu. The first time we saw the U.S.J Arc Nomu was when Tomura invaded the unforeseen stimulation joint arena where there was an all out battle between the villains and students of U.A High. Tomura, however, states that he had arrived to destroy All Might and introduces the U.S.J Arc Nomu which was specifically designed with extreme regeneration and shock absorption abilities to take on All Might. While the Nomu did put up a strong fight, it was no match for All Might. During the fight, All Might lands a powerful punch on the Nomu, sending it flying out of the unforeseen stimulation joint arena. The Nomu was later arrested by the police and its true identity was uncovered, revealing it to be a small-time thug who underwent body modification with quirks.

Nomu Classifications and Types

There Are Plenty of Different Types of Nomus

While Nomus come in all shapes and sizes, they are classified from low to high tiers depending on how powerful they are and the number of quirks they have. Starting from the bottom are the lower-tier Nomus who can take on weaker pro heroes and are usually used as soldiers. These Nomus also usually possess a maximum of two quirks. Middle-tier Nomus are slightly more powerful than the lower-tier Nomus but also don't pose a significant threat to heroes. Upper-tier Nomus comes next, and they are quite powerful. An example of an upper-tier Nomu would be the U.S.J Nomu who fought All Might. These Nomus are quite dangerous as they are not easy to defeat.

Near high-end Nomus are next on the list and are considerably stronger than upper-tier Nomus, they are, however, unable to carry out actions and think on their own. They are also known to have low intelligence. High-end Nomus tops the list as the strongest of the Nomus, and they are capable of possessing around six quirks. These Nomus are extremely tough to defeat, and they can also speak. They are also able to learn and adapt in situations when fighting heroes, making them a threat to the heroes, even for the strongest of heroes, these Nomus can pose as a viable threat.
