My Hero Academia’s Slice-of-Life Moments Really Help It Stand Out From Other Shonen

My Hero Academia’s little slice-of-life moments really help the series stand out from other popular shonen. Here's how.

7 Entrance Exam Arc

MHA Entrance Exam

This arc introduces readers to the My Hero Academia world. The beginning of a story is crucial, as it ushers in the events that will eventually happen. Readers get to know the main characters and the supernatural abilities that individuals in the My Hero Academia world are born with, that transform their world from an ordinary one to one where heroes rule.

In this arc, Izuku Midoriya’s life takes an unexpected turn as he finally gets a quirk after living for 14 years without one. He becomes the next individual to receive All Might’s powerful and transferable quirk, One For All. Midoriya begins his journey to becoming a hero in U.A. High alongside the supporting characters Bakugo, Uraraka, and Tenya.

6 Unforeseen Simulation Joint (USJ) Arc

Class 1-A reflects on the USJ Incident

As Class 1-A students take a practical class that requires them to showcase and practice their rescue skills, real villains show up, forcing them into a real-life situation they are not ready for. The villains that show up will become a terror to these students and their world: Tomura Shigaraki, the League of Villains, and Nomus. These villains are after All Might, and since he is not present with the students, they start attacking the students and their teachers (heroes) in hopes that it will cause All Might to show up.

This arc shows the students the true nature of villains, as they will do anything to achieve their evil agenda. Even though the students did not prepare for this attack, they still held on and fought a good fight. During this arc, Kirishima is able to form a friendship with Bakugo, and as the manga progresses, they become best friends.

5 U.A. Sports Festival Arc

Students in the Sports Festival

This arc sheds more light on Shoto Todoroki, and he emerges as one of the main characters readers will grow to love. Todoroki is lucky enough to have two quirks in one. His half-cold, half-hot quirk is thanks to Endeavour, his father, and his determination to produce an offspring that can overtake and be more powerful than All Might. This determination comes at a heavy price as his son, Todoroki, grows to hate him and his quirk, Flames.

In addition, Midoriya learns more about the One For All quirk, and All Might reveals to him that he too was once quirkless.

4 Provisional Hero License Exam Arc

This arc shows how much the Class 1-A students have been training as they get ready to take the Provisional Hero License Exams, and a majority of them are able to pass. Readers also get familiar with the other hero academies in Japan.

Being a victim of bullying is one of the worst things that can happen to an individual, and Midoriya has been a victim for years. During this arc, he finally understands why Bakugo bullied him so much as they were growing up. Bakugo also learns about the true nature of Midoriya’s quirk, One For All. Why Has My Hero Academia's Story Taken a Dark Turn?

When My Hero Academia first started, not many would have predicted or even expected for the story to have taken such a dark turn in the recent season.

During this dark moment, he still has support from his friends and backing from All Might, Endeavor, and Best Jeanist. As their world is in chaos and things look bad, they receive news that America’s number one hero is coming to help them.

2 Star And Stripe Arc

Star And Stripes vs Shigaraki Tomura

Things are going too well for All For One, and it has to stop. This arc introduces a new hero from America, Star and Stripe, and her powerful quirk, New Order. This quirk can change reality, and All For One has his eyes set on it. Tomura is now fused with All For Now and is able to decay Star and Stripe with his quirk, and steal her New Order quirk.

Things did not work out as planned. The New Order quirk destroyed some of Tomura’s quirk and itself, thanks to Star and Stripe's order. With Star and Stripe dead, Japan loses its foreign help. Luckily, All For One’s plan is set backward thanks to the damage caused by Star and Stripe’s quirk. Class 1-A must use the time wisely as they prepare to fight the greatest villain in Japan: All For One.

1 Paranormal Liberation War Arc

The Paranormal Liberation War Arc Battle

This arc had so much happening as the heroes embarked on an operation to attack the villains, but this went south quickly. Pro-heroes were injured, some died, and the city was in chaos. The Class 1-A students and others did their best to save the citizens in the middle of this chaos.

Tomura Shigaraki starts becoming one with All For One, and goes after Deku to steal the One For All quirk. In addition, readers receive the greatest shock as Dabi reveals himself as Toya Todoroki, Endeavour’s oldest son, whom they all thought was dead. Again, this arc has so much happening.
