Distinguished by their emerald green hair and the red gemstone embedded into their foreheads, the Superds are a proud race of warriors who hail from the Demon Continent in the world of Studio Bind'sMushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. Feared for strength and prowess in combat, as well as their actions during the Laplace War, the Superds suffer from a horrible reputation owing to the latter event. Their most visible representative in the series, Ruijerd Superdia, has made it his life's mission to retake control of the narrative surrounding the Superds, and restore their honor in the eyes of all residing in the world of Mushoku Tensei. It is with his introduction that the true history of the tribe comes to light, particularly their betrayal by the former Demon God Laplace.

At the start of the story, the Superds were introduced as a fearsome race of warriors in league with Laplace, who had been responsible for indiscriminately killing all in their path at the time of the conflict, going so far as to slaughter their own families. Each time the Sueprds were mentioned both before and after the Teleport Incident, there were always reactions of fear, distrust, and anguish, due to the gruesome and violent records of their deeds during the war. In fact, Superds were readily discriminated against by most other races at the start of the story, as a consequence of a curse that arose after Laplace's defeat. For instance, Ruijerd's transport fee when traveling with Rudeus and Eris was significantly higher than the latter pair's. Over the course of the story, it is the combined actions of Rudeus and Ruijerd that serve to end this curse, and reinstate the tribe's reputation as a group of honorable warriors.

A Tribe Of Proud Warriors

Superd Tribe Mushoku Tensei

Superds have incredible longevity among the races of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. Ruijerd is said to be over 500 years old at the start of the series, yet he is still in his physical prime, indicating that a Superd's lifespan can potentially extend for thousands of years. Additionally, the Superds are incredibly powerful warriors in their own right, with Ruijerd being practically undefeated during his exploits as part of Dead End, until their fateful encounter with the Dragon God Orsted. Famed for their strength, battle acumen, and durability, Superds also have Magic Power Eyes that allow them to perceive the flow of mana within an individual. They are also born with tails, which later harden and fall off to become the very spears they use in combat.

As a result, Superds are known as formidable spearmen all throughout the world and this is attested to by Ruijerd's proficiency with his own spear, which was actually the tail of his late son. Superds are especially attached to their spears, regarding them as their own souls, as seen in Ruijerd referring to his own spear as his own son's soul. The tribe's warriors also seem to adhere to a strict code of honor, as seen in Ruijerd's own moral values, which are far more righteous than the majority of the other main characters in the series such as Rudeus, Eris, Ghislaine Dedoldia. Their pride and talents in combat led their warriors to be highly coveted, prior to the events of the Laplace War.

Tricked By The Demon God

Unfortunately after siding with Laplace during the conflict, this very pride was brought to ruin through a series of unfortunate calamities orchestrated by the Demon God, who used the tribe's naivety for his own personal gain. After recruiting the tribe to his forces, Laplace gifted them a host of pitch black Devil's spears, and ordered the Superds to use them in place of their birth spears. Unbeknownst to them, the spears were actually cursed and sent all members of the race into a trance-like frenzy where they attacked and killed everyone in their sight indiscriminately. Even after defeating their foes in the theater of war, the Superds turned on each other, killing their own comrades, friends, and eventually, their families. Over time, this led to much of the race being wiped out, with the exception of a few survivors.

Ruijerd Superdia was one such survivor, who was brought back to his sense by his own son. On suffering a fatal injury at the hands of his father, Ruijerd's son Ruiweld was able to destroy the Devil's spear and rouse him from his frenzied state. Horrified by his own actions, Ruijerd sank into a deep despair and even contemplated ending his own life in order to atone for the sins he had committed. However, he eventually decided against this and vowed vengeance against Laplace for his betrayal, and took his son's spear as his own weapon, that would then wield in his memory. Ruijerd also bore witness to the Superd tribe's horrible reputation after the war, becoming a victim of discrimination himself, as he was one of the few remaining members of the race who had survived the tragedy inflicted upon them by Laplace. Subsequently, he made it his life's mission to change the fallen reputation of his people, and took on an extremely strict moral code, motivated by the loss of his son.

On A Path To Redemption

Ruijerd Close Up Mushoku Tensei

In his introduction at the start of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, Ruijerd had done little to clear the name of the Superds, and it is only the arrival of Rudeus and Eris on the Demon Continent after the Teleport Incident that sees him take the first real step in this journey. Vowing to escort Rudeus and Eris back to their homeland, Ruijerd embarks on a journey with the pair, after Rudeus volunteers to help him in his goal of reinstating the honor of the Superd tribe. The trio then formed the Adventure Guild part named Dead End, and proceeded to style themselves as heroes who would protect the innocent, as a means to elevate the image of the Superds above the clouds of fear and suspicion that surrounded them. In this vein, Rudeus would routinely introduce himself as Ruijerd whenever he did something heroic.

Over time, these actions bore fruit as the name of Dead End achieved particular renown both on the Demon Continent and in other parts of the world. The group's good deeds over the nearly three years they spent traveling together did not go unnoticed, and, towards the end of their journey, the curse of the Superd tribe was shown to have nearly dissipated. Ruijerd's interactions with humans on the Central Continent reflect this, where they remained friendly and welcoming to him after he saved their lives. Furthermore, Ruijerd's act of shaving his head is also said to have eroded the connections to Laplace, who is also said to have had emerald green hair during his lifetime. In effect, Rudeus' strategy proved effective in realizing Ruijerd's dream, where the world is now a much safer place for Superds to roam, which will likely only improve in times to come.
