In the second episode of the currently airing Mushoku Tensei anime series, Rudeus declared his intention to get married and bought a house to that extent. Showing his love for Sylphy, the mage hosts a wedding reception and invites his close friends. Rudeus’ marriage reception isn’t as big as many would’ve expected at the beginning of the series, but it still sends the message about his love for Sylphy and vice versa.

While the episode ‘Wedding Reception’ portrays the love between the couple, it also reveals many secrets that leave fans stunned. Moreover, the episode also shows the possibility of Rudeus being involved in the battle for supremacy of Asura’s throne as a member of Princess Ariel’s faction in Mushoku Tensei.

The Wedding Reception

Prior to the wedding reception, Rudeus and Sylphy go around to get various things, and eventually, they decide to get new clothes for Rudeus. What makes this scene interesting is that despite the ‘animosity’ between Rudeus and Luke, the former gets a discount on the new mage robe he purchases, as Luke, a Greyrat like Rudeus, is a frequent customer of the cloth store Rudeus visits.

As Rudeus and Sylphy continue to prepare, they quickly come into a situation most couples go through—a shortage of funds. While Sylphy declares she has money saved up, Rudeus considers adventuring to earn more money if their finances get tight. Finally, the anticipated day arrives, and many, including Nanahoshi, show up for the reception. Badigadi appears late in his usual rambunctious style; however, what changes the atmosphere from its general celebratory mood is a shocking declaration.

A Shocking Reveal

Elinalise And Sylphy’s Blood Ties

Before the wedding reception, Sylphy expressed her interest in seeing Elinalise at the reception so that she could ask her some questions. At first, Rudeus found this surprising, and some fans assumed it had to do with the handling of men. Interestingly, on the anticipated day, Elinalise breaks down crying from seeing Sylphy living a happy life, and Sylphy promptly asks if she is her grandmother. This question leaves both the characters and fans stunned; however, it turns out that Elinalise and Sylphy are in fact related.

Although both are elves, very few considered the probability. Due to Elinalise’s curse, she often gets with multiple men and sometimes has children. However, she never reveals her name to the children and often leaves them once they become old enough to fend for themselves. Sylphy’s father was one of those children. While the discovery itself was shocking and unnerving to many people, it quickly died down as Elinalise and Sylphy were able to resolve it.

A Duel

Rudeus Fights With A Sword

The duel between Rudeus and Luke was to be done with real swords, making it seem more like an actual battle than a practice duel. With the no magic condition that Princess Ariel imposed on the duel, the odds weren’t looking to be in Rudeus’ favor, particularly because, as fans know, he lost almost every duel against Eris while they were with Ruijerd and even as they grew up. While that’s the case, Rudeus beat Luke in only a couple of moves before the personal knight could even do a thing. While Princess Ariel claimed that the duel was nothing but to ensure Sylphy’s security, Luke’s mannerisms suggest it meant more than that to him.

Meanwhile, the way Rudeus beat Luke shows that while the young mage cannot compare to the likes of Eris and Ruijerd, he is still an able combatant with a sword, as he has been trained by Paul, a notable adventurer, and even Sword King Ghislaine. And so, Rudeus proves that even without magic, he is capable of protecting himself, albeit not as well as he could with magic.

After the duel, Sylphy and Elinalise finish their talk and end up smoothing everything out. However, one does wonder just how many children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren the cursed elf may have scattered all over the world of Mushoku Tensei. Meanwhile, after seeing Elinalise’s dilemma, Cliff becomes even more determined to help the elf get over her curse rather than feeling disillusioned, as Rudeus thought. Having a partner (Elinalise) being a grandmother to a friend and classmate (Sylphy) might have left many feeling disillusioned, but not Cliff. His determination only increases as he declares his duty to Elinalise because she loves him and him her.

Princess Ariel’s Resolve

Foreshadowing Conflict And Alliances In The Asura Kingdom

After the duel, Princess Ariel gives a monologue on how she plans to vie for Asura’s throne or die trying, as it is her duty. She also mentions how Sylphy has no moral obligation to join her in the many dangerous situations she’s sure to be involved in. While she does ask Rudeus to stop Sylphy if the elf still wants to join her, Rudeus believes he’ll probably end up getting dragged into it, allowing fans to realize that an arc concentrated on Princess Ariel with Rudeus and Sylphy getting involved is sure to come. As the Asura kingdom is highly influential, the plots and battles surrounding it are sure to be deadly and cutthroat. However, Sylphy holds Princess Ariel in high regard and is likely to follow her regardless.
