Mushoku Tensei's second season is set to return with some interesting storylines and a big change for Rudeus and Sylphy.

Rudeus Makes A Comeback

After Various Letdowns, The Young Mage Finally Picks Himself Up

In his past life, Rudeus was a NEET who feared socializing and interacting with others. His fears took control of him, and he became a shut-in. After reincarnating, Rudeus gradually lost his insecurities and became a confident young man. However, his confidence was shattered after Eris left him. For most of the first part of the second season, Rudeus was seen with his head hanging low, leaving fans with a bitter taste of what the series’ protagonist had become. While some fans were able to resonate with Rudeus and his insecurities, others felt he was letting himself sink too deep, as Rudeus Greyrat could barely move forward.

Thankfully, with the airing of the second part of the second season, Rudeus is seen confident with his head hanging high, and even the characters around him notice the change in his demeanor. As Rudeus slowly returns to being the confident and skilled mage fans know and love, many are excited about what this season will have to offer. With his erectile dysfunction now cured, Rudeus would be able to work on more pressing matters such as finding his mom; however, before that, the young mage seems to want to get married.

The Search For A House

Rudeus Prepares To Get Married

After Sylphy helped cure Rudeus, the mage promised to marry her. However, few fans expected Rudeus to move the marriage process as fast as he has. To prepare for marriage, Rudeus starts looking at the price of houses to buy one. With this act, Rudeus shows that he’s fully determined to marry Sylphy and is ready to take on any and all forms of responsibility. The mage shows that while he is inexperienced about the things to do before getting married, he is determined to learn and proceed.

As many houses are beyond his budget, Rudeus picks one with a terrible history of its tenants getting murdered. Taking Cliff and Zanoba with him, Rudeus goes to investigate. On getting there, the trio begins investigating the house. Mid-investigation, Rudeus proclaims he will be getting married after, showing how serious he is. His companions simply express acknowledgment, and the investigation continues.

A Moving Doll And Zanoba

Zanoba Strives To Prove His Worth

As Rudeus, Cliff, and Zanoba explore the house in its entirety and don’t come across any creatures, they decide to stay the night, as deaths and occurrences are known to happen at night. Sure enough, a ‘monster’ appears at night, but neither of them expects it to be a moving doll. At first, Rudeus and Cliff are terrified of the ’monster’ and almost destroy it; however, Zanoba is quick to determine that the monster is a living doll and that it possesses great value. After Rudeus calms down, he becomes excited at the prospect of moving dolls and what it means for the world. Moving dolls are, in essence, robots and automata. With the one the crew discovered, they can be mass-produced and improved.

With the ‘monster’ being taken care of, Rudeus and his crew set out to the academy the next day. On their way, Zanoba pleads to be in charge of continuing the research on the doll. This scene is filled with emotion as Zanoba describes his uselessness in terms of craftsmanship and how taking control of the moving doll research may only make it progress slower. However, he still wants to head it. In this scene, Zanoba accepts that he is weak and clumsy, but still wants to be able to support Rudeus in more ways than money. Rudeus shows the trust he has for Zanoba and allows him.

Master. Would you allow me to take charge of researching this moving doll? I have little mana and clumsy fingers...I only get in Master's way and make the work drag on forever… The research might proceed faster if you did it all yourself... Please, Master! When your plans finally bear fruit, I want to have contributed more than just money! — Zanoba

Rudeus And Sylphy’s New Home

A Symbol Of Love, Nostalgia, And Maturity

The house Rudeus picked out for him and Sylphy is without a doubt too big for just two people. However, the young and crafty mage may intend to fill it with children. As Rudeus shows Sylphy their new home, he also shows his love and thoughtfulness as he makes the color of the roof similar to Sylphy’s old hair color, creating a nostalgic feeling of when they were kids. Showing Sylphy inside, Rudeus has the house fitted to an extent and takes Sylphy to the only room he has fixed up.

The couple both sit down to talk about their future, and Sylphy expresses how she may not be able to settle down in the house Rudeus has prepared. Before she can beat herself up, however, Rudeus proclaims how he is ready to do anything for her, as she gave him her all and helped cure him. In this moment, Rudeus truly shows that he has matured as a person and is ready to move on with his life.
