The following contains spoilers for Mushoku Tensei

7 Rudeus Enters A Magic Academy

Mushoku Tensei Rudeus with His Classmates

Despite being a seasoned adventurer with plenty of experience casting magic, Rudeus decides to enroll in the Ranoa University of Magic. He enrolls on the advice of Elinalise, who suggests it as a good way to spend his time while his father and his comrades are searching out his mother's specific location.

While his decision to enroll at Ranoa was largely coincidental, the choice ends up changing his fate, as coming to the university connects him with people who would eventually become lifelong friends and allies. So much of Rudeus's life changes because of his enrollment here that it's hard to imagine what his life would have been like if he hadn't come to this school.

6 Rudeus Reunites With Old Acquaintances

Mushoku Tensei Rudeus and Zanoba

Rudeus's enrollment in the Ranoa University of Magic gives him the opportunity to reunite with some old acquaintances he hadn't seen in a long time. He first meets Zanoba Shirone again, the prince who was obsessed with figurines. The two become close friends thanks to their shared love of figurines.

However, Rudeus's most important reunion is with Sylphiette, his long-lost childhood friend. Currently masquerading as Fitz, it takes Rudeus quite some time to recognize his former close friend, but once he does, the two's relationship becomes as if they had never left each other's side.

5 Rudeus Meets Someone From His World

Mushoku Tensei Rudeus and Nanahoshi

There are many strange students that Rudeus meets while attending the Ranoa University of Magic. However, the student known as Silent Sevenstar is easily the most enigmatic, wearing a mask at all times and rarely showing up to class. It takes a while for the two of them to meet, though Rudeus recognizes her as having accompanied Orsted during their first encounter.

Rudeus eventually learns Silent Sevenstar's secret: her real name is Shizuka Nanahoshi, and she is a person from his original world. Unlike Rudeus, Nanahoshi did not reincarnate and is searching desperately for a way back. Rudeus ends up helping Nanahoshi a lot with her attempts to get home, with the experiments varying wildly in success.

4 Rudeus Gets Married...Three Times

Mushoku Tensei Rudeus with Sylphie and Roxy

Romance has always been a big part of Rudeus's new life, but he always seems to end up with bad experiences. His reunion with Sylphy, however, changes things, and once the two of them are reunited, it isn't too long before they get married. Rudeus's married life gets off to a quick start, with him buying a house in Ranoa and soon having a child with Sylphy.

However, Rudeus doesn't just stop at one wife, especially since having multiple wives is commonplace in the world of Mushoku Tensei. A reunion with his old master Roxy ends with him making her his second wife, and when Eris finally returns to his life, he marries her as well. Despite the trouble that having multiple wives must bring, Rudeus, Sylphy, Roxy, and Eris all live happily together.

3 Rudeus Gets His Family Back

Mushoku Tensei Rudeus's Family

One of the major plot points of early Mushoku Tensei is Rudeus attempting to get his family back together after they were all scattered thanks to the Teleportation Incident. While Rudeus finds his father Paul, Norn, Aisha, and Lilia rather quickly, he is unable to find his mother Zenith for a very long time.

Years after the Teleportation Incident, Paul finally finds Zenith at the bottom of a dangerous dungeon. Rudeus and his father manage to rescue Zenith, but Paul ends up sacrificing his life in the process. Despite this tragedy, Rudeus is finally able to reunite with his family and live together with them again.

2 Rudeus Meets His Future Self

Mushoku Tensei Old Rudeus

Rudeus has finally found his family, and things seem to be looking up. With no further need to go on dangerous adventures, Rudeus settles down to have a peaceful and quiet life with his family. However, all that is interrupted by the sudden appearance of his future self.

The future Rudeus tells his past self of how the Man-God tricked him, resulting in the deaths of Roxy, Sylphy, and many more. He hands Rudeus a diary telling all the horrific tragedies he experienced throughout his life so that he could avoid them this time around. He dies soon afterward, but there's no doubt his meeting with Rudeus allowed for a new fate to be woven.

1 Rudeus Joins Forces With Orsted

Mushoku Tensei Rudeus and Orsted

Rudeus's first encounter with Orsted was a disaster, leaving him almost dead. While he attempted to avoid Orsted as much as he could, a deal with the Man-God forced him to confront the Dragon God, resulting in a climactic battle that ended in Rudeus's loss.

However, Orsted recognized that Rudeus was being used and threatened by the Man-God, and offered his help if he betrayed the Man-God. Rudeus accepted his offer and began working with Orsted to fight the Man-God. Orsted has held up his end of the deal admirably, helping Rudeus protect his family from the Man-God, showing that he is quite a noble and honorable man.
