Curses are extraordinary abilities that arise from abnormalities in the mana contained in people. Those blessed with beneficial powers from these curses are referred to as Miko or Blessed Children, while those with hostile powers are known as Cursed Ones or Cursed Children. However, even Miko's powers have a negative effect on the user sometimes.
Cliff Grimoire, the grandson of the Millis Pope and an outstanding student at the Ranoa Magic Academy, believes that curses and magic items share similarities, allowing the negative effects of curses to be offset through the use of magic tools, evidenced by when Laplace transferred his curse to the Superd Tribe through his Devil Spear. Without further ado, here are all the known curses in Mushoku Tensei.
6 Curse of Promiscuity
Elinalise Dragonroad is the only character known to suffer from this curse. It induces an intense level of sexual activity, which makes her behave like an animal during heat, and if her sexual needs are not satisfied, it could lead to fatal consequences. The curse utilizes sperm to convert the accumulating magic within her body into a magic crystal.
Cliff developed a magical item in the form of panties to mitigate the curse’s effects, much to Elinalise’s delight. Since the device needs substantial magic power to run, Rudeus is responsible for charging it himself.
5 Dragon Tribe Curse
The Dragon Tribe bears a curse that elicits intense feelings of fear and hatred from all living beings and beasts, regardless of their race. However, this curse does not affect individuals who are not initially from their world - like Rudeus and Orsted’s acquaintance, Nanahoshi.
This curse is a result of the role played by the First Dragon God in destroying five of the Six Worlds. The Human World suffered great damage, too, riddled with all types of natural disasters due to the fight between him and Hitogami. This made all inhabitants of the Human World despise and fear the Dragon Tribe, particularly the Dragon God. Hence, Orsted and Demon-Dragon God Laplace have this curse.
4 Miko Of Strength
Zanoba Shirone, the third prince of the Shirone Kingdom, was the recipient of this Miko ability. From an early age, he was always a heavy hitter capable of matching demon kings in terms of raw strength. His punches prove to be deadly even against individuals protected by Battle Aura. However, his immense power does not extend to his stamina, making him ill-suited for prolonged battles and journeys.
His powers are both a gift and a curse, killing several of his loved ones unintentionally due to his sheer strength. Consequently, his older brothers perceived him as a volatile person, likening him to a ticking time bomb, and proposed his exile out of fear of the unpredictable outbursts of his power.
3 Miko Of Memory
The Miko of Millishion was blessed with the ability to peer into people’s memories simply by gazing into their eyes, allowing her to unlock the secrets within. As a shrine maiden with extraordinary powers, she became a valuable asset in the power struggle between the Archbishop and the Pope. Primarily utilized for investigations and interrogations, her power became sought after. However, the use of her abilities was strictly regulated by the Archbishop.
By looking into people’s eyes, she can see the memories that occupy their thoughts. When she prolongs her gaze, it enables her to access memories dating back several years; however, delving into these extensive recollections takes a toll on her, leaving her drained and exhausted afterward.
2 Miko of Telepathy
Being trapped in a Magic Crystal during the Teleport Incident granted Zenith Greyrat the ability to read people’s minds. However, due to this ability, she finds herself in a dream-like state, unable to communicate verbally. Unbeknownst to her, she believes she can speak due to her telepathic capabilities, as evidenced by her interactions with Lara and Leo, where she perceives their thoughts as if they were speaking directly to her.
Others believe she has lost all her memories and her ability to form speech after the heinous situations she faced during the Teleport Incident; little do they know that she can hear the thoughts of all those around her, including babies and animals.
1 Playback Miko
The Playback Miko was responsible for the Teleport Incident and the reincarnation of Rudeus and Nanahoshi into this world. She was born in the Armored Dragon Calendar Year 500, with the ability to reverse the course of events that affect an object within a maximum of twenty-four hours. Her unique gift allows her to revert death and diseases, making her highly coveted by nations and powers.
She opened a rift in time and space in order to undo the death of a loved one. This rift summoned the soul of Rudeus into a baby's body from the other world. After a few more years, it manifested the Teleport Incident, summoning Nanahoshi too.
