MultiVersus is the latest wacky platform fighter game for fans of the genre. Featuring a roster that contains all sorts of characters from the IPs owned by Warner Bros, MultiVersus managed to attract many with its odd concoction of fighters. Recently, the fighting game allowed some players early access to its beta, but this week, the floodgates have opened as everyone who wants to have a go at MultiVersus can in the open test, resulting in a high number of players hopping onto the title.

As Steam statistics show, on PC alone there were 144,456 concurrent players for MultiVersus in the first 24 hours of its open beta launch. While this didn't put MultiVersus ahead of the usual favorites on Valve's platform like Dota 2 and CS:GO, it did pass Apex Legends, which had a total count of 118,887 players. MultiVersus' player count managed to earn it seventh place in Steam's list of concurrent players in the 24 hours following its launch, also beating any other Warner Bros title in that category.

Previously, games like Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor and Back 4 Blood had reached impressive concurrent player counts of 48,668 and 65,987 respectively. However, the previous top Warner Bros game for concurrent players on Steam was Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which was the online platform's biggest Lego and Star Wars title. With a top player count of 82,517, though, MultiVersus' figure of 144,456 blows Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga out of the water.

The day one peak of MultiVersus manages to top the combined peaks of every Mortal Kombat and Batman game, reaching an all-time peak for the fighting game genre even while it was in closed beta. The open beta for MultiVersus can be accessed simply on its Steam page. However, even with its popularity, some have found MultiVersus to be a controversial release, especially when it was in its closed beta stage. Fans found there were multiple bugs in MultiVersus, including one issue which prevented players from accessing content that they had paid for.

With the release of the open beta, much of these problems have been fixed. However, some are still taking issue with the game, especially with the free rotation of characters in MultiVersus, as the developers did not inform gamers of the change to the playable fighters until after they had been switched. This created some confusion among the player base, but now the way MultiVersus will switch its free characters has been outlined, hopefully this issue won't persist.

MultiVersus is available in open beta on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
