Highlights

  • Don't feel bad about playing 'cheap' in PvE Rifts - bots won't mind repeated moves.
  • Have a diverse team to cover all classes & categories to maximize rewards in Rifts.
  • Utilize Gems and complete objectives efficiently with a partner for faster progress in MultiVersus.

Multiversus is out in full, as it was a free-to-play platform fighter by Player First Games that existed in Open Beta for quite a while before taking the game back into the metaphorical 'development oven'. Now the game is completely out and accessible, and while some systems in-game have their fair share of issues, overall the game has a lot more 'polish' to it. An example of this polish has to be with the additional modes, the Rifts being the prime example.

Multiversus: Best Team Perks, Ranked

Team Perks in Multiversus are typically designed around 2v2s compared to the other Perks that can work in either 1:1 or 2:2. These are the best ones.

These are entire maps made up of individual fights where a player (or players, in the multiplayer mode) clears specific objectives to gain rewards, progress through the map, and fight the boss at the end of the Rift. Now at the time of writing this, the Multiversus dev team has made the next fighter, Agent Smith from the Matrix franchise, accessible early if players make enough progress in the Rifts mode. And while there isn't quite enough Rifts content to actually obtain these rewards yet, players are getting the grind out of the way now, so let's go over exactly how to clear these PvE Rifts as efficiently as possible.

7 You Can Play 'Cheap'

The Bots Are Very Simplistic

Multiversus - Match Starting Screen

First things first, the main thing players need to keep in mind when grinding the Rifts in PvE to try and unlock Agent Smith early is that bots don't have feelings. Players don't need to feel bad about using the same move over and over or not using a move because it's too obvious, it's not going to be hurting anyone's feelings.

That said, there's an argument to be made for players using the same move over and over in PvP, but in PvE, it's not a problem. Even on the higher difficulties in Rifts, the bots make pretty predictable movements, so while players can use this mode as practice for PvP, it's faster to just use the strongest, cheapest, and widest hitting attacks over and over to clear each stage.

6 Try To Have A Character Of Each Type

Gather Your Entire Hoard of Mages, Tanks, Ranged Fighters, Assassins, and Bruisers

Multiversus - Fighters Screen

Of course, there are the 'class types' in Multiversus, those being Bruiser, Tank, Mage, Ranged, and Assassin but there are also more keywords assigned to each fighter than that. Things like Villanous, Human, Non-Human, Detective, and more are basically 'tags' used to categorize each fighter into broad categories.

6 Hardest Secret Characters To Unlock In Fighting Games

Fighting games have included secret characters to unlock since near the genre's inception. This list breaks down the hardest ones to unlock.

The reason the game even does this at all is primarily for Missions and for the PvE Rifts, as there are a lot of challenges that call for either a specific Tag (such as Detective) or a specific Class (such as Bruiser). So, when grinding these Rifts, try and use that early Currency to get fighters that cover as many of these classes and categories as possible, as this will allow players to get all 5 stars their first time through a Rift mission much more often.

5 Have A Character With Great Special Damage On-Hand

You're Going to Need Them

Multiversus - Special Damage Objective

Another commonly occurring mission type in the PvE Rifts are ones that ask to hit a certain number of Attacks or Specials. This could be something like 'hit with 5 Dash Attacks' or even 'Connect with 3 Down Specials', but one that pops up surprisingly often is 'Deal X amount of Special Damage'.

Special Damage, for those who aren't aware, is of course damage inflicted by a character's Special Attacks, and not all characters in this game have great offense-focused Specials. So, for those planning on really grinding out these Rifts, try and get a character unlocked who has Specials that are either very strong or very easy to connect with, and have them on hand for when these missions pop up.

4 Clear Rifts In Multiplayer

It's so Much More Efficient (& Faster) to Clear it With a Co-Op Partner

Multiversus - Rewards Screen Rifts

Just bout every single stage of every Rift in Multiversus (at the time of writing this, at least) has a mission that says 'Bring another player with you into battle'. The Rifts are available as a multiplayer experience, and if players want to 100 percent fully complete them, they'll need to know someone who will do all the stages with them.

Every Soulcalibur Game, Ranked

The Soulcalibur series is beloved by many fans of the fighting game genre, but which entry in the series stands as being the best of them all?

Putting the absurdity of having this as a requirement aside, making sure to clear Rifts with a friend or another player is not only a huge help in getting more Gems, but it also helps in clearing said stages faster. Of course, this can also be more detrimental than beneficial depending on how said friend/player performs, but for the most part, this should be a massive benefit.

3 Utilize The Gem System

They're Pretty Crucial For Making Any Sort of Progress

Multiversus - Having The Wrong Gems in Rift

The Gems in the PvE Rifts of Multiversus essentially replace the Perk system. Players can't use their Perk setups in here and are basically required to use these Gems in order to advance. The Gem color also has to match the same color as the border around the stage, with green representing the Digital category, purple representing the Chaos category, and red representing the Horror category. As players clear stages, unlock more rewards, and open more Acme Crates containing Gems, their Gems will slowly level up.

As the average level of their Gems increases, players will not only be more effective in combat in the Rifts, but they'll also unlock new difficulty levels. For example, the Crushing difficulty option is locked until players have an average Gem Level of 4, which can take quite a while unless players bite the bullet and use their Gleamium in the shop to purchase Gem EXP.

2 Try & Do The Most Objectives Possible Before Moving On

Don't Leave Anything Left on Your Plate

Multiversus - Mission List In Rifts

One of the most helpful things players can do for themselves while working through Rifts in Multiversus is to try and complete as many objectives in their first clear of a stage as possible. Returning to previous stages later and reclearing them to finish one last reward objective turns the mode into even more of a tedious slog than some would argue it already is. So, if the rewards for a stage are asking players to:

  • Win the Match with a Detective character.
  • Ring out an opponent at the bottom edge of the stage.
  • Deal 100 Attack Damage.
  • Bring another player with you into battle.

Then players should use either Batman or Velma (for now at least), focus on using their spikes mid-air (typically their aerial Down Attack) to KO opponents, rack up as much damage as possible before KO'ing them, and try to bring a friend into the stage with them. As players unlock more difficulty levels, returning to past ones to clean up the 1-2 reward objectives missed on stages is a truly painful experience, especially if the only objective remaining on most of the stages is the 'Bring another player with you into battle' one.

1 Check Back For Alternate Paths

It Can Be Difficult to Remember Sometimes

Multiversus - Difficulty Options In Rifts

And finally, let's end things with a little reminder that should help players grind out the PvE Rifts faster, don't forget about branching paths. In the first two Rifts, for example, those being Multiversal Mayhem and Rift Detective, players will need to have unlocked Banana Guard and obtained a Graphic Tee skin for a character (typically Velma) to go down the alternate paths in these Rifts.

Now for the most part, players don't really 'need' to clear these alternate paths to reach any of their objectives in the PvE Rifts, but going down them is a lot more efficient for grinding. Going down an alternate path, for example, could save the player the time it takes to clear one last objective in 5 different stages as they could get all 5 of those rewards from just full-clearing on stage of said alternate path.
