The return of MultiVersus has reportedly already seen huge success, with Steam concurrent player counts showing over 100,000 players joining in on the relaunch. The platform fighter from Player First Games and Warner Bros. follows in the footsteps of crossovers like Super Smash Bros, bringing together a wide variety of characters from Warner Bros. properties. The relaunch debuted with three new characters in DC's The Joker, Adventure Time's Banana Guard, and Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees, with more to come. Now, the game is already off to a strong start.

MultiVersus' recent relaunch comes following an extensive testing period where players got their first taste of the Warner Bros. fighter. MultiVersus was first widely available to players as an open beta in mid-2022, initially debuting with 13 playable characters including Bugs Bunny, Superman, and Adventure Time's Finn and Jake. While the game saw modest success throughout its testing period, Player First would end the beta test in June 2023, taking the game offline and making players unable to download. Now, MultiVersus is back and fans are already returning in droves.

MultiVersus Seeing Early Steam Success with Relaunch

As reported by VGC, MultiVersus officially relaunched earlier this week on May 28 and the game's return has already seen success comparable to its beta test. Steam tracking website SteamDB has confirmed that MultiVersus boasts an impressive concurrent player count peak of 114,515 players following its relaunch. The total number of players marks nearly 75% of the peak player count MultiVersus saw throughout its open beta in 2022 and 2023. MultiVersus also went live across multiple other platforms on Tuesday, including both PlayStation and Xbox launches.

The launch trailer for MultiVersus hinted at even more new cast members, with fans spotting teasers for beloved characters like Samurai Jack and Harry Potter. Speculation has also run rampant about third-party characters, with MultiVersus director Tony Huynh "pushing" for Breaking Bad's Walter White.

New characters aren't the only thing MultiVersus has brought with its relaunch earlier this week, including plenty more perks and bonuses. MultiVersus added multiple new stages, including settings based on Dexter's Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls, as well as a new PvE game mode. Returning players from MultiVersus' open beta are also going to see special rewards, with past players receiving the Season 1 Battle Pass for free and being granted exclusive cosmetics.
