A MultiVersus developer has hinted that legendary Mortal Kombat character Scorpion may soon debut in the free-to-play fighting game. Theories have run rampant as to who will be added next to MultiVersus, with Scorpion seemingly being an easy pick for at least one of the game's developers.

Originally released in beta back in 2022, MultiVersus managed to carve out its own space in the packed fighting game genre. Similar to Nintendo's highly successful Smash Bros. franchise, MultiVersus is a crossover fighting game that brings some of the most celebrated and infamous franchises together. Published by Warner Bros. Games, MultiVersus has access to a treasure trove of characters, ranging from Adult Swim icons Rick and Morty to Arya Stark from HBO's critically acclaimed series Game of Thrones. Because of the sheer depth of content for Warner Bros. to choose from, fans are constantly theorizing who could eventually make their way into MutliVersus, with one of the game's developers hitting at the debut of a legendary fighting game character.

Player First Games community manager Ajax replied to a user-created take on Mortal Kombat's Scorpion. The concept art envisions a MultiVersus-inspired Scorpion, who fits surprisingly well within the game's art style. A simple reply may not be enough to get excited about, but Ajax's response used the wide-open-eyes emoji. While unconfirmed, Mortal Kombat has long been rumored for a MultiVersus crossover, with Ajax seemingly leaving the door open for this iconic fighting game character to join the roster.

MultiVersus Dev Teases Mortal Kombat Crossover

MultiVersus relaunched earlier this summer, equipped with more robust features and improvements. Unlike other fighting games, MultiVersus allows players to use different characters on a rotational basis. Players can unlock characters permanently by playing matches and completing quests, but developers have worked to ensure fans get a taste of all the characters in the base game.

While Scorpion is still a maybe, players are excited for MultiVersus' new character to drop in next week's update. As part of its mid-season update patch, MultiVersus is introducing Agent Smith, the legendary character from The Matrix franchise. Smith will join MultiVersus' expansive and eclectic list of fighters, which now includes Jason from Friday the 13th, Shaggy from Scooby Doo, and a variety of DC superheroes and villains like Batman, Superman, and Joker. Alongside Agent Smith, MultiVersus' new update will also shake things up for players, adding new Free-For-All and Spectator modes. MultiVersus will also receive a new Megalodog Rift, as well as several new variants of classic maps.
