MultiVersus has had a rather tumultuous return. After leaving its Beta phase last Summer and taking a lengthy hiatus, MultiVersus has returned with its full 1.0 release, and the few weeks since its re-launch have been filled with various controversies surrounding different aspects of the game, from a swathe of technical issues to some predatory microtransaction features. Thankfully, developer Player First is trying its best to slowly fix some of MultiVersus' biggest issues, though it still acts as a good lesson for other fighting games.

Mortal Kombat 1 has seen its own fair share of controversies since its launch last September. From some disappointingly expensive cosmetics to an overreliance on the game's half-baked Invasions mode, Mortal Kombat 1 has been the subject of quite a few criticisms, but even with those in mind, there are still some lessons it could learn from MultiVersus' own reception, including a very recent controversy that could end up ruling out one potential future MK crossover.

MultiVersus Proves That Mortal Kombat 1 Shouldn't Cross Over With Transformers

MultiVersus' Recent Iron Giant Controversy Explained

Over the last few weeks, MultiVersus fans have started to notice a few glaring issues when it comes to balancing the roster's many different fighters. Coming from all corners of the Warner Bros. universe, MultiVersus' roster is packed with iconic faces ranging from DC heroes and villains to Scooby-Doo characters and a ton in between. One such familiar face is the Iron Giant, coming from the 1999 movie of the same name.

A towering robot, the Iron Giant has been at the heart of a recent MultiVersus controversy. According to many fans, the Iron Giant is overpowered due to his increased height and stature, appearing much taller and larger than any other MultiVersus fighter. Iron Giant's size often means that a good portion of the screen is taken up by the robotic fighter, making it harder to see other foes and environmental objects. Paired with the fighter's ability to dish out some devastating instant-kill combos, the Iron Giant's size makes it a difficult foe to counter, and the same would likely be said for any similar type of character in Mortal Kombat.

A Transformers Crossover in Mortal Kombat Could Cause the Same Issues

For years now, Mortal Kombat has made crossovers a key part of its post-launch support, usually releasing a handful of guest characters as DLC. A major highlight of these Mortal Kombat guest characters has always been their authenticity to the source material, appearing, moving, and attacking like fans would expect them to. It's this high level of authenticity that would make any potential Mortal Kombat x Transformers collaboration impossible.

While it would be great to see a Transformers crossover in Mortal Kombat 1, the sheer size of characters like Optimus Prime and Megatron would likely cause similar issues to the ones currently surrounding MultiVersus' Iron Giant. For the sake of balanced gameplay, any Transformers guest fighters would need to be scaled down for Mortal Kombat, but that would fly in the face of the franchise's dedication to authenticity. Technically, a Mortal Kombat x Transformer crossover could circumvent this issue by adding a Mini-Con to the game, though these smaller Bots aren't nearly as iconic as the vast majority of the Transformers cast.
