Highlights

  • Missing features in MultiVersus beta were due to the switch to Unreal Engine 5.
  • Despite initial success on Steam, the MultiVersus player count has dropped.
  • Hopefully the missing features will return soon and bring back lapsed players.

MultiVersus has launched with several features missing from its beta, and now the co-founder of Player First Games has explained why that’s the case. Developed by Player First Games, MultiVersus is a side-scrolling platform fighter similar to Smash Bros. but with a wide cast of Warner Bros.-owned characters.

At the moment, MultiVersus is missing features like the co-op vs. AI mode, post-game stats, and more from the full release. New characters and a new engine were a big part of this full release, with the debut of three new members on the roster.

AEW Fans Want a Beloved Wrestler to Appear in MultiVersus

While many characters are available in MultiVersus, fans of All-Elite Wrestling are pushing for a popular pro wrestler to make their way to the game.

Player First Games' game director for MultiVersus, Tony Huynh, recently tweeted the reason why the game is missing so many features. “Many of these features are currently implemented and are in testing, as we had planned, but were left out due to time as we had to rebuild every screen and feature again to support our new netcode and Unreal Engine 5 switch.” It seems the switch to Unreal Engine 5 from Unreal Engine 4 had enough work behind it to warrant some missing features for the full release due to time constraints. Some features missing include the ability to try locked characters in MultiVersus in local modes like training. However, Huynh did not mention if this feature would return or not. The only features he mentioned were team colors, end-of-game stats, swapping sides and neutral attacks, and adjustable input buffer settings.

MultiVersus Beta Features Are Returning Soon

Despite the changes made to the full release, MultiVersus has seen success on Steam. With the appeal of a wide variety of Warner Bros. characters like Rick and Morty, Shaggy, Velma, Jake the Dog, Batman, Wonder Woman, and more, MultiVersus has seen player counts of over 100,000 on Steam following its return. However, that player count has dropped to less than half of its peak of 153,433 players. Currently, its daily player count is averaging around 50,000 players. Many players have stopped playing because the full release lacked features from the beta. However, as we've heard from Huynh, many of these features may be coming back soon.

There is no timeframe for the features coming back to MultiVersus, but according to Huynh, many of them are currently being tested. There should be more information coming soon, though the actual update may be further than people think. Hopefully, the release of new characters in MultiVersus and the return of these features will be enough to retain its playerbase.
