MultiVersus' Open Beta is now available in Early Access, available to anyone willing to watch a stream for 60 minutes and earn a Twitch Drop. The Super Smash Bros.-like fighting game's pitch is that it's free-to-play and will be robustly supported with new content like other major live-service games. There's no better time to show that than MultiVersus' upcoming Open Beta launch and the start of Season 1. With that in mind, three new MultiVersus characters, including LeBron James, Rick, and Morty, have been announced for release soon.

San Diego Comic-Con is currently ongoing and Warner Bros. brought a MultiVersus panel to the convention this year. During the convention, WB and developer Player First Games confirmed the next three characters coming to the game. First will be LeBron James, associated through his starring role in Space Jam: A New Legacy. After LeBron James, Morty Smith of Rick and Morty will be released, followed by Rick Sanchez.

LeBron James will be MultiVersus' first character edition since Iron Giant arrived as part of the Early Access launch of the Open Beta. A trailer for LeBron showed that the Bruiser-class character will take a basketball with him as he plays, dribbling and dunking on his foes. LeBron James will launch on July 26, coinciding with the full release of MultiVersus' Open Beta.

Morty Smith follows LeBron James and will arrive in MultiVersus starting on August 9. The occasion will mark the start of MultiVersus' Season 1 of content, which arrives long before the game's full release. Morty's move-set is said to focus on counter-moves and projectiles, including grenades and even "whipping" himself at opponents. Rick Sanchez will follow Morty into MultiVersus. His signature moves include the use of Rick's portal gun, summoning Meeseeks, and other tricks befitting a Mage-class character. Rick arrives during Season 1, but has no firm release date at this time.

This is arguably the most important time in MultiVersus' launch, as the fighting game's momentum will be established with the launch of its Open Beta and the first season of live content support. That LeBron James and Rick and Morty were chosen to define these moments shows how much faith Warner Bros. has in their brands.

As noted, MultiVersus is a free-to-play fighting game. Its characters are not fully available to play online immediately, instead requiring players to earn an in-game Gold currency over time which can be spent on individual fighters. While there is a rotating selection of free characters, LeBron James, Rick, and Morty will likely require players to spend either Gold or the premium Gleamium currency to unlock them. MultiVersus' Open Beta starts July 26, so players should start saving up now.

MultiVersus is available now in Early Access via Twitch Drops on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
