  • Jason Voorhees joins Warner Bros' MultiVersus, bringing slasher-style combat to the platforming-based fighting game on May 28.
  • Mark Hamill reprises his role as The Joker in MultiVersus along with other new characters like Agent Smith and Jason from Friday the 13th.
  • MultiVersus showcases Jason in a gameplay trailer set at Camp Crystal Lake, featuring his iconic moves and even an "Uber Jason" skin.

The next playable MultiVersus character will be none other than the infamous Jason Voorhees of Friday the 13th fame. MultiVersus is to Warner Bros what Super Smash Bros. is to Nintendo, pitting legendary characters from the studio’s vast library of franchises against one another in quirky, platforming-based combat. Warner Bros. and developer Player First Games let players try MultiVersus out in early access back in 2022, and the game will finally be released in full on May 28.

This full version of MultiVersus will feature new playable characters that weren’t included in the early access phase, with Mark Hamill reprising his role as The Joker from Batman: The Animated Series and the Batman: Arkham games. The Clown Prince of Crime might not be the only nefarious silver screen villain terrorizing opponents in MultiVersus, as eagle-eyed fans spotted Agent Smith from the Matrix movies and Jason from Friday the 13th lurking in the official launch trailer released earlier this month.

MultiVersus Showcases Anticipated New Stage

MultiVersus shares a new look at one of the game's anticipated upcoming stages and reveals the challenges that await players.

A new, Jason-centric MultiVersus gameplay trailer features the terror of Camp Crystal Lake in all of his machete-swinging, teenager-killing glory. It plays out like an old-fashioned horror movie trailer, with a narrator monologuing about Jason as he stalks the rest of the MultiVersus roster and inflicts damage with moves pulled straight from the Friday the 13th movies. He also has an alternate skin based on his futuristic “Uber Jason” look from Jason X. The trailer ends on a surprisingly humorous note, with Jason doing a Moonwalk after slashing at Shaggy with his signature machete.

MultiVersus Full Release Date

  • May 28, 2024

Jason Vorhees’s gaming history is almost as rich as his cinematic one, having appeared in multiple titles dating back to the Friday the 13th computer game back in 1985. In more recent years, Jason had a starring role in Illfonic’s 2017 asymmetrical multiplayer horror title Friday the 13th: The Game, which allowed players to either step into the role of a teen survivor trying to escape Jason’s latest rampage or the undead slasher himself. MultiVersus won’t even be Jason’s first guest appearance in a fighting game, as he famously lumbered his way into Mortal Kombat 10 to battle it out with EarthRealm’s champions.

Jason’s movie rights are currently tied up in messy legal issues and the popular Friday the 13th: The Game was delisted last year, but fans will at least be able to get their hockey mask-wearing killer fix in MultiVersus when the full game releases on May 28. There, Jason will be classified as a Tank character, which is appropriate for a killer known for murdering targets with brute strength and any instrument he can get his hands on - be it a machete or sleeping bag with the body of his last victim still inside it.
