The next update for MultiVersus will address infinite combos, or 0-to-death combos, that have been in the fighting game since launch. MultiVersus has now been available for just short of three months, but developer Player First Games has spent much of its time completely reworking many of the game's systems. The hitbox/hurtbox design of MultiVersus has been redesigned, as an example. And MultiVersus' netcode is being improved going forward. It was just a matter of time before MultiVersus' combo system was also addressed.Fighting games like MultiVersus and Super Smash Bros. have issues with combos much like any other fighting game. A sequence of attacks can be chained into another sequence of attacks in an unintended way, leading to a juggling scenario where an opponent has no means of recourse. MultiVersus has previously addressed infinite combos back in August, but players have worked around the adjustments to bring them back.RELATED: MultiVersus Update 1.04 Adds Stripe from Gremlins and Halloween EventPlayer First Games is now taking a very serious step to address infinite combos. In a response to a complaint on Twitter, MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh explains that the next update will add a very significant restriction. Performing the same attack in any combo more than 3 times will drop the combo. It should be noted that Huynh initially says "2" attacks per combo but later corrects himself to "3" attacks.

Suffice to say, MultiVersus players who heavily rely on extended combos should still be able to deal a significant amount of damage to their opponents. A Harley Quinn combo, for example, that is able to utilize 3 of each attack before the combo breaks will still manage over 50 damage. That's still significant, but certainly not the 100+ damage combination and potential kill that Harley Quinn was capable of doing prior.

Getting caught in an infinite combo in MultiVersus isn't fun. Whether it's Harley Quinn, Iron Giant, Batman, or another character, there's no worse feeling than not being able to fight back in a fighting game. It's baffling that it has taken so long for Player First Games to fully address the issue, though many players will say 0-to-50+ combos aren't healthy for the game, either.

MultiVersus is still a game that's in many ways in early access, as Player First Games takes rudimentary systems and game design elements and dramatically iterates them based on player feedback. That may sounds like a bad idea, but for a live-service game improving systems that don't work even if it conveys a lack of polish is best for long-term game health. When the combo change patch arrives MultiVersus will be a better game for it, and that's all any player can ask for.

MultiVersus is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
