MultiVersus is a crossover fighting game that offers a ton of fun Easter eggs that coincide with the included characters' respective franchises.

MultiVersus stars a variety of characters spread across many universes, much like Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. The wide range of characters this game presents includes the likes of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, as well as Bugs Bunny, Scooby-Doo and many more. This spectrum of franchises and characters enables First Party Games to include many Easter eggs and references, which encourages community discussion among the player base even in the game's Beta stages of development.

An iconic Batman pose was spotted among the community, which fans might recognize from The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel, written and illustrated by Frank Miller. The graphic novel went on to be adapted into an animated movie by Jay Oliva, and was also used as inspiration for Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman, both featuring Batman doing the same midair pose as lightning strikes in the background. This Easter egg pose can be found in the game by using a combo set described as a side air attack being used twice.

The Dark Knight Returns was written in 1985 and is considered one of the most influential comic books to date, as it was responsible for revitalizing the character through its contextual analysis, and in so doing, evolving the comic book medium into the modern age of pop culture. It is no surprise that MultiVersus would capitalize on the Batman that Frank Miller created, as the pose is most recognizable as a defining trait to the character’s hardcore audience. In The Dark Knight Returns, the pose originated from the scene of a Gotham police officer’s perspective of Batman swinging in the sky, chasing after a group of robbers. The scene marks the first time that the superhero notably returns after his retirement, etching this as an iconic Batman moment.

The idea of a multiverse is not new in the worlds of cinema, comics, and games. As a result, it is no wonder that MultiVersus features an impressive roster of universes and characters. The fighting game has accumulated positive reviews in its Beta stage, so players might expect that the character roster and opportunities for improvement will grow in the coming months as more feedback is generated.

MultiVersus is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
