Planeswalkers in Magic: The Gathering's Multiverse are sentient beings who possess a Planeswalkers Spark; energy within their very soul borne from the void of The Blind Eternities between dimensions. This connection to the space between worlds grants individuals the ability to travel between planes easily as well as lets them use the mana of different realms.

Chandra Nalaar is a human pyromancer from the plane Kaladesh. As one would expect of a person who wields flames, she is hot-headed and impulsive but also passionate and cares deeply for her friends. She dislikes authority and prides herself on her ingenuity and daring. These traits and more combine to make Chandra one of the most interesting and dynamic Planeswalkers in the Multiverse.

10 A Past Wreathed In Flame

Born to inventor parents, Chandra had two sisters and a brother. As she grew and discovered her powers of fire, things became complicated because fire magic is banned in Kaladesh. Her parents tried to "cure" her of this quality, which forced Chandra to flee home in a fit of flames and set a few houses on fire. This led authorities to her village, who then began to accuse innocents of practicing fire magic. When the police began forcing these villagers into burning buildings as punishment, Chandra returned and fought them, though this caused more destruction and death than anything else.

9 Ignition Of Her Spark

As Chandra realized that her village, friends, and even her family were burned to death by the conflict and police brutality, she surrendered, blaming herself for the tragic loss of life. Though, it was later revealed that it was not Chandra who initially started the fires in the village but the soldiers and politicians seeking to persecute her for her nature as a pyromancer. She was taken to the city of Ghirapur, where she was sentenced to death. But upon the blow that would have taken her life, her Spark ignited and she ascended into being a Planeswalker. During the energetic process, she was transported to the plane of Regatha and away from the dangers of Kaladesh.

8 The Path Of Pyromancy

After leaving Kaladesh, Chandra spent a lot of time in the plane of Regatha. Specifically, at Keral Keep upon Mount Keralia, where she was able to study pyromancy properly under the tutelage of Jaya Ballard. Keral Keep's educational focus on teaching pyromancy encompassed the importance of personal freedom and individual choice, which suited Chandra well. In addition, Jaya, also being a Planeswalker, was able to teach Chandra a great deal about how to control and utilize her power to the maximum potential.

7 Thievery

After her intense past and much of her training at Keral Keep, Chandra began to explore the Multiverse as Planeswalkers do. Being a free spirit concerned mostly with her own goals, she took to thievery of high-valued objects.

On such a venture, she visited Aretopolis on the plane of Kephalai and stole the Dragon Scroll from the Sanctum of Stars Museum. Chandra returned to Keral Keep in Regatha where she handed the scroll off to disciples who made copies of it. Though, as she did so she was pursued by another Planeswalker: Jace Beleren.

6 Conflict in Kephalai

Tasked as such by the Infinite Consortium, a merchant organization, Jace Beleren was to track down Chandra and retrieve the Dragon Scroll. Jace managed to follow Chandra to Regatha and there they had a duel which Jace emerged from victoriously. He returned the scroll to the Sanctum of Stars but it wasn't long before Chandra showed up to steal it again, intent on learning its secrets. In the process, however, a battle broke out which resulted in Chandra inadvertently immolating the entire museum and all those within it.

5 Meeting Gideon

After the destruction of the Sanctum of Stars, Chandra was apprehended by the authorities and in the process lost the re-stolen scroll. After suffering some torture and interrogation in regards to the whereabouts of the Dragon Scroll, Chandra managed to escape custody. On her flight, she met Gideon Jura, another Planeswalker who helped her flee and also told her of his theory that the Dragon Scroll originated on the rich, yet erratic, plane of Zendikar.

4 Breach At The Eye Of Ugin

During Chandra's exploration of Zendikar, she came across the Eye of Ugin: a lock imprisoning the ancient and powerful Eldrazi. Upon this discovery, another Planeswalker in the area named Sarkhan Vol attacked Chandra, intent on sacrificing her at the behest of a voice in his head.

During the duel between these two Planeswalkers, Jace Beleren showed up to foil the maddened one's plans, though in the process the three accidentally triggered the opening of the Eye of Ugin, which broke an ancient seal that freed mighty Eldrazi Titans. Though, the effects were not immediately noticed.

3 Becoming The Abbot Of Keral Keep

After her first trip to Zendikar, Chandra returned to Keral Keep and eventually became the new abbot after Jaya Ballard passed away. During the ceremony to make her promotion official, Jace Beleren and Gideon Jura showed up with ill tidings from Zendikar. The Eldrazi titans freed when Chandra, Jace, and Sarkhan Vol's battle broke the seal were now covering the plane in abominations. Jace and Gideon asked her to join them in fighting this threat but Chandra refused, opting to stay in Regatha. At least, for a time.

2 Return To Zendikar

As time passed, the abbot of Keral Keep grew restless and wished to see how things were faring in Zendikar. After planeswalking into the world she witnessed the Eldrazi titans wreaking havoc. Deciding to do what was right by the people of this plane and her Planeswalker allies, she joins with Jace, Gideon, and a few others to form the Gatewatch, a group dedicated to defending the Multiverse against the greatest of threats. By combining their powers, they are able to slay two of the titans and force the third to flee, restoring peace to Zendikar.

1 Hunting The Last Eldrazi Titan

Following the defeat of the two Eldrazi titans Ulamog and Kozilek, Chandra decided to rest for a while in Zendikar and recover her power, though the battle with these ancient beings was not over. Soon, Jace discovered that the titan who escaped, Emrakul, had traveled to Innistrad. Here, the members of the Gatewatch confronted the horror from beyond and managed to seal its might away. During the sealing ritual, Chandra and Gideon worked together to ensure that the sealing team was not interrupted. They succeeded in locking Emrakul away, thereby saving the Multiverse once more from the hungry chaotic ones from the Blind Eternities.
