The RTX 4060 Ti 16GB has already been discounted by some retailers just shortly after its silent launch. The GPU from Nvidia is listed on major retailer websites in the European market with up to €30 (around $33) discount. The semiconductor maker released the card on July 18 and initial reviews have suggested that the price gap between the 8GB and the 16GB models is justifiable considering the minimal performance difference.

Nvidia, with typical graphic card launches, is pretty involved with the review process, and it asks its partners for a list of reviewers, as well as shares timelines but with the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB, but this time the company took a back seat. It did not send out any review units to its partners who could not send them out to reviewers for day 1 benchmarks. It was as if Nvidia did not want people to know about its latest offering and now, the card is already on sale just days after launch.

MSI is selling its Ventus 3X 4060 Ti 16GB for €529 (around $586), a €20 discount from its launch price of €549 (around $608). Until recently, the GPU was listed on Mindfactory for €519 (around $575), but the price seems to have gone back up by €10. The listing is up along with two other variants from MSI which are also somewhat discounted. The RTX 4060 Ti GAMING X SLIM variant is priced at €539 (around $597) while the GAMING X variant is priced at €544 (around $602).

In the US, unfortunately, there are no discounts on the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB, and the card is selling for $499 (launch price), from board partners like Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI. It was known before the launch that there would be no reference model for this GPU. This puts the 16GB variant at $100 over the 8GB variant, but does the performance bump justify the extra cost? Sadly, no. Initial benchmarks from Nvidia showed that the card largely offers the same performance as the 8GB variant.

The Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4060 Ti GAMING OC 16G is the latest offering by Gigabyte in the RTX 4060 series. It is the 16GB VRAM version of the 4060 Ti that was launched back in May. With double the VRAM, it can outperform the 8GB variant in memory-intensive games and productivity applications.

Interestingly, MSI’s own benchmarks showed that the 16GB variant performed worse in four out of the six games it tested. It should be noted that the company used its RTX 4060 Ti 16GB GAMING X SLIM edition for the test which resulted in marginally worse performance in Cyberpunk 2077, F1 2023, Rainbow 6: Siege, and Fortnite. On the other hand, CS: GO saw a significant FPS jump with the 16GB variant while Hogwarts Legacy delivered the same performance irrespective of VRAM capacity on the GPU.

Looking at the performance of the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB, it’s not surprising that Nvidia was not keen on promoting it at launch or sending it out to reviewers. Now, board partners want to generate interest in these GPUs with discounts just days after the launch. This should be an indication for Nvidia to officially drop the price and bring it closer to the 8GB variant, hoping to make it more appealing to end-users.
