One of the most well-known YouTube stars, MrBeast, has recently revealed that he despises the way the comment section is structured on the platform. He then proceeded to compare the YouTube comment system with that of another website, which he believes is much better structured.

MrBeast is a hugely-successful American YouTube content creator, who managed to grow his own channel to the point that he even got to overshadow PewDiePie, another highly influential YouTuber. MrBeast started his YouTube channel way back in 2012 and his first videos were focused on gaming. His charismatic personality quickly allowed him to expand his audience and gain substantial revenue by advertising, selling merchandise, and gaining several sponsorships. Even though he became famous through YouTube, MrBeast is highly critical of the platform’s comment structure.

In a recent podcast published on YouTube, MrBeast gave his honest thoughts after he was asked what he would do if he were to take over YouTube for a year. While he was overall satisfied with the way the platform works, he disapproved of the way YouTube’s comment section works, saying it requires significant change. MrBeast then began talking about how the top comments in every YouTube video are either meaningless spam or bots trying to scam users. The YouTuber next mentioned that Reddit does a much better job with that feature, as it actually allows users to leave behind constructive comments.

YouTube’s environment has gotten so awful for MrBeast that he frequently skips reading the comments on his videos, preferring to check out feedback from other places, such as Reddit and Twitter. MrBeast credits Twitter’s blue checkmark feature by saying that people who are willing to spend their hard-earned money on being verified on the platform, are much more likely to be sensible people: “I've noticed that any tweets I get from verified users now, they're usually not just garbage, troll takes. Like these are people paying 8 dollars per month, they're usually relatively sensible. So, it's been pretty nice, after I upload a video, I just go on the verified tab on Twitter and just see what people have to say, and yeah, anyways, I live for the day that YouTube’s like that.”

Although YouTube remains the world’s top platform for video sharing, it’s hard to disagree with MrBeasts’ claims, as the video platform clearly suffers from its lack of a strong enough moderation system for its comment section. One thing that could improve YouTube could be the implementation of a “karma” or points-based system similar to that of Reddit, which would track the number of upvotes users have on their comments, and also hide comments if users have a high number of downvotes.

Regardless of how he feels about YouTube, MrBeast will continue producing content on the platform as he hopes to remain the #1 most subscribed YouTuber. MrBeast currently has 127 million subscribers on his main YouTube channel.
