Movies tend to operate in fictional worlds, so as to offer audiences a brief escape from reality. To further solidify how cinema can differ from reality, some movie characters will be gifted otherworldly abilities that are impossible to imitate in the real world. These abilities are mostly gifted to superpowered individuals, but this isn't always the case.

Though being a superhero will often result in certain characters unlocking some incredible powers, it isn't required for some to turn invisible. Some characters must rely on objects to activate the ability, and when they do, they become completely invisible to the naked eye. Several characters in cinema are capable of turning invisible, but the manner in which they conceal themselves is often unique to them alone.

7 Violet Parr - The Incredibles (2004)

Violet and Bob Parr in The Incredibles

Though Violet is possibly the least outspoken member of the Parr family, she has what is arguably the most impressive superpower in the entire family. It takes a while for her to gain full control of her abilities, but when she does, she proves to be an incredibly gifted superhero.

Violet usually turns invisible whenever she feels nervous. She eventually learns to control this ability, but she still remains partially visible due to her clothing. This all changes, however, when Edna Mode creates a suit for Violet that compliments her powers, rendering her completely invisible to the naked eye.

6 Harry Potter - Harry Potter & The Philosopher's Stone (2001)

Though Harry Potter's abilities take a while to develop during his time at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, it's hard to deny how gifted he is for his age. He is a quick learner who takes pride in studying magic, but there are some abilities wizards can't learn from teaching.

The ability to turn invisible isn't overly common in the Wizarding World, but it can be learned by studying the Invisibility Spell. This spell is primarily used to conceal objects, but the Invisibility Cloak Harry inherits during his first Christmas at Hogwarts is arguably the best means of concealing a living person. For his remaining years at Hogwarts, Harry makes a point to only use the Invisibility Cloak as his last resort, which proves to be an excellent decision during moments when he needs to get by unseen.

5 Predator - Predator (1987)

Jungle Hunter Predator would have pulled off his hunt if it wasn't for one human

Predator documents the lives of a group of veterans who find themselves becoming prey to an unseen creature wandering the jungle. Slowly as the story progresses, each main character is picked off by the unknown entity until only Dutch, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, remains.

The climax of Predator revealed that the Predator isn't as invincible as it was made out to be, but it sure is hard to kill thanks to its ability to turn invisible. For most of the movie, the Predator remains unseen and only ever reveals itself when it believes it isn't being watched. If its cloaking device wasn't rendered ineffective by Dutch prior to the climax of the movie, perhaps the creature would have come out on top, but sadly, Dutch proved to be the better hunter.

4 Randall Boggs - Monsters Inc. (2001)

In a movie chock-full of frightening monsters, each of whom possesses unique abilities, none are as unsettling as Randall, a chameleon-like monster whose sole goal in the story is to outshine Sulley and claim his spot as the best scarer in Monstropolis.

While on the job, Randall will often camouflage himself to further enhance how frightening he can be. This is an intimidating feat, but it's even scarier when he uses his power to slyly wander Monstropolis while stalking his colleagues.

3 Frodo Baggins - The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring (2001)

Upon inheriting the One Ring from his uncle Bilbo, Frodo also gains the ability to turn invisible, but it comes at a price. Wearing the One Ring permits Frodo to go unnoticed by those around him, and though it can be a handy power to call upon, it also exposes his whereabouts to Sauron.

Even so, Frodo finds himself activating the Ring's power quite frequently on his journey to Mordor, even when he knows he shouldn't. Though Frodo has the option to turn invisible whenever he feels like it, he probably shouldn't rely on it too much, given the danger it poses to both him and all those around him.

2 Adrian Griffin - The Invisible Man (2020)

The power of invisibility can easily be used for good, but Adrian Griffin, an optics engineer, seems to only use the ability for the worst things he can think of. When Cecilia decides she has had enough of Adrian's behavior, she attempts to flee, but Adrian refuses to allow her to leave him.

After some time passes, Cecilia learns that Adrian took his own life. The relief she feels upon hearing this news, however, quickly turns to fear when she begins to suspect another presence in her home. It takes some time for her to prove she isn't imagining things, but she eventually does when she tosses some paint down what appears to be an empty attic stairwell, revealing an invisible Adrian to be standing in front of her.

1 Miles Morales - Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (2018)

Unlike most versions of Spider-Man, Miles Morales has a few extra abilities that his fellow web slingers don't have access to. It takes the up-and-coming hero some serious work to unlock them, however, but when he does, he proves to be an incredibly capable hero.

Miles first learns how to turn invisible during his time inside Wilson Fisk's research facility. It surprises him when Peter Parker is unable to see him, and even though he's not sure how he activated the ability, he turns invisible once again shortly after their exchange ends. Though Mile's venom-blast attack is perhaps his most notable move, turning invisible is no small feat.
