A Japanese website held a poll to determine the most popular Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Scarlet and Violet were first released in 2022, introducing a host of brand-new creatures for fans to catch, along with spins on old favorites. Earlier this December, Scarlet and Violet's Indigo Disk DLC was dropped, expanding upon the number of critters that can be caught in the Paldea Region. This DLC introduced new legendary Pokemon like Terapagos, along with familiar faces from past generations like those that originated from the Kanto and Unova Regions.

The release of the Indigo Disk DLC brings the Pokedex up to over 1000 Pokemon, with 507 being able to be caught within Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and its two DLCs. 400 can be caught in the base game, while the Teal Mask and Indigo Disk DLCs add 107 in total, being split across the Kitakami and Blueberry Pokedexes. With so many creatures to find in Scarlet and Violet, one might wonder which is the most popular critter to be found in Paldea.

Some creative Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players come up with a new way to play rock-paper-scissors using only the Punching Pokemon, Hitmonchan.

Japanese gaming strategy guide website GameWith held a poll to try and determine which is the most popular Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet. With almost 152,700 people voting, the full results were posted on the site, showing the top 100 Pokemon. According to this poll, the most popular Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet is Meowscarada, the final evolved form of the grass starter Pokemon, Sprigatito. Second place is taken by Fuecoco, the first stage evolution of the game's fire starter, and third place is, surprisingly, the returning Chandelure.

The top 20 is taken up by a mix of other popular returning Pokemon, such as Lucario, Garchomp, and Gengar, while new Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet like Tinkaton, Teal Mask Ogerpon, and Clobsire were also in the running. Looking at the results, this popularity poll features a healthy mix of Pokemon people liked rather than ones that are competitively viable in the game's meta.

GameWith also provided explanations into why someone voted for a particular Pokemon. Some Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players voted for who they used in their party when they beat the game's story, while others chose ones like Clodsire or Tinkaton just because they looked cute. One of the outliers would be Lucario, who received votes specifically for the role it played in the anime, such as the Pokemon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew movie. Suffice it to say, there are plenty of reasons that these Pokemon were popular, and based on this poll, Meowscarada is at the top of these unofficial standings.
