Envy is a negative emotion, and that was the most prominent feeling Kokushibo experienced in his life. Born as a twin brother to the greatest demon slayer to ever walk the earth, he could never seem to catch up to Yoriichi despite how hard he trained. Yoriichi was also born with his demon slayer mark, unlike everyone else who had to acquire it after coming in contact with him.
Yoriichi invented Sun breathing, and Kokushibo invented the slightly inferior Moon breathing. Years after turning into a demon to thwart the curse that claimed the life of all who activated the mark, Kokushibo came across an eighty-year-old Yoriichi. When he saw that Yoriichi lived well past the curse and led a fulfilled life that he couldn’t, it greatly infuriated him.

This is only a testament to the psychotic tendencies that Doma regularly exhibits. Doma only eats young women because he believes that they are the most nutritious of humans, and that is one of the reasons Akaza despises him. He also has a cult dedicated to his worship that comprises mostly women, so they can’t question him when someone goes missing.
Gyokko is an artist that makes ornate vases and pots, much to the taste of Muzan and Doma. In this scene, Doma acknowledges the beauty of Gyokko’s work and tells him what sinister use the last gift he received serves.

Due to the rough childhood Kaigaku had, he grew up with a tendency to be selfish and self-preservative and had to resort to stealing, swindling, and other bad acts to survive. He once sacrificed the lives of the orphans that were being taught by Gyomei Himejima to save himself. After being picked up by Jigoro Kuwajima, he was projected to become the next Thunder Hashira due to his immense swordplay.
After Jigoro started training Zenitsu, Kaigaku began to harbor resentment towards Zenitsu because he was repulsed at the idea of being replaced by someone so feeble. When Jigoro announced that both Zenitsu and Kaigaku would be his successors, he felt betrayed that his desire to be approved was never fulfilled; he ended up betraying his master and becoming a demon.

Akaza’s obsession with weeding out weak individuals and hatred towards them mostly stems from the resentment he harbors towards his human self, as he could not protect anyone he loved from the cruel fate that befell them.
He hates that he was too weak and was caught stealing, which made his father commit suicide in shame. He hates that he was not there to protect his wife and her father from the rival dojo members that infiltrated theirs and poisoned their well. That is why he has a psychological need to keep becoming stronger and believes that weak people have no place in this world.
6 “Aaaaaah No, no, no!! Don’t collect from me. You didn’t give me anything, and you are still collecting from me. I won’t forgive you!! I won’t give you!!” - Gyutaro
Gyutaro lived a terrible life as a human, despite that, he found a way to smile through the company and good fortune of his beloved sister, Daki. When she was infuriated by a samurai who said bad things about her brother, she stabbed his eye out with her hairpin in a fit of rage. The samurai showed no mercy as he beat her up, tied her, and threw her into a ditch, where he burnt her alive.
Gyutaro came back from his job to find his sister burnt, half dead, and lying in a ditch. The samurai snuck up on him and slashed his back, but Gyutaro quickly killed him. While searching for help for his dying sister, Gyutaro questioned God for allowing this much misfortune to befall him.
5 “I will collect, I will. I will collect what I’m taken.” - Gyutaro
This shows viewers a glimpse of Gyutaro’s past life, where he was a debt collector for the brothel where his sister worked as a courtesan. After the demon slayers decapitate his beloved sister multiple times and she cries for him to help her. He swears to carry out revenge on those who hurt his sister and will collect what he is owed in blood.
This is another testament to the strong bond that is between Gyutaro and Daki, with the older one ready to do anything to soothe the pain and discomfort his younger sister feels.
4 “The real “bond”!! I want it…!!” - Rui
Rui, the Lower Moon Five, was once a sickly boy with a low life expectancy. After he became a demon and killed a human, his parents became terrified of what their son became and schemed to kill him and themselves so they would join him in the afterlife. Rui caught them in the act and killed them both.
He felt betrayed and pondered why his parents, who claimed to love him, would try to kill him. He recruited weaker demons, made them play house, and shower him with fake familial love. After Rui witnessed Nezuko and Tanjiro giving their all to protect each other in dire situations. He remembered what it felt like to be truly loved and became envious.
3 “Don't run away, you coward! The Demon Slayers are always fighting your demons in the dark of the night where you have the advantage! That's right, us flesh-and-blood humans! Our wounds won't close up that quickly. And we cannot regenerate a limb once lost! Don't run away, you bastard! Rengoku is way more amazing than you! He's stronger! Rengoku didn't lose! He didn't let anybody die! He fought to the end! He protected them to the end! You're the one who lost! It's Rengoku who won!" - Tanjiro
This is a very emotional quote that was birthed after the death of Rengoku Kyojuro at the hands of Akaza. After the defeat of Enmu on the infinity train, Akaza, the Upper Moon Three, was revealed to be the main antagonist of the arc. Rengoku, the Flame Hashira, decided to take the fiend on, in a quest to save the lives of everyone present.
A fantastic battle ensued, during which Rengoku earned the respect of Akaza. Akaza even begged him to become a demon to save his life after receiving many fatal injuries. In the end, Rengoku was only human, and he fell victim to Akaza, he tried to hold him till sunrise, but Akaza detached his body from Rengoku and ran away with his tail between his legs.
2 “You told me what to do. You deserve death.” - Muzan
Muzan is a rigorous and ruthless leader who constantly reminds viewers of that fact. He even went as far as placing a curse on demons through his blood that made sure whoever defies him or mentions his name for any reason shall meet a horrible demise.
In this scenario, Rokuro, the former Lower Moon Two, offered unsolicited advice to Muzan, and he felt abused. Demons, especially Lower Moon, are not allowed to speak their suggestions or go back on what Muzan says, and he rewards insolence like that with death.

Muzan infiltrates the Ubuyashiki mansion and expresses his lack of guilt to Ubuyashiki, he even goes further and taunts him saying he has committed atrocities for thousands of years, and he still hasn’t encountered the divine retribution that was said to befall bad people.
Claiming he must have been forgiven by God or Buddha. This shows that Muzan has no problems with claiming human lives as he is entitled to them, believing he is above the rules that govern ethics and even the gods have no say in his affairs.
