They say, “Absolute power corrupts absolutely.” And boy, do video games show how true that is. So many great video game villains are members of royalty for a reason. The idea that someone with such power and authority is corrupt or just downright evil is a terrifying prospect.

Even more comical or cartoonish examples still use their crown to get up to whatever mischief they want, and it’s the hero’s quest to knock them off their throne. Here are some of the biggest baddies in video games born with a silver spoon in their mouth, but with no heart to be found.

Deltrarune was a welcome return to the world of monsters Toby Fox introduced in 2015’s Undertale. Although this land is more of a parallel to the original, it’s still filled with plenty of quirky, lovable characters fans have come to expect. It’s also got its share of terrifying characters that fans have come to expect.

The best (and worst) of those is King, the ruler of the Card Kingdom and father to Lancer. While Lancer eventually turns around to view the Lightners as his friends and teammates, his father is another story. The game heavily implies that he’s not the greatest father either, even when he’s not threatening to drop his son off a cliff.

That madness is, of course, the Queen of Hearts. It’s her efforts to take Wonderland for herself that have kept Alice locked in a mental asylum all these years. Her ghastly, monstrous hands, as well as her face that resembles a younger Alice, have so much haunting symbolism for Alice's lost childhood. Considering how much she loves taking off people’s heads, is it any wonder she’s the reason poor Alice lost her mind?
