A new study claims to reveal the "most confusing" recent video games. For decades, people have made strategy guides and walkthroughs detailing how to complete certain video games, and that continues to this day. There are certain things in games players need help figuring out, and that's not going to change any time soon.

A study conducted by Uswitch has analyzed Google search data in an attempt to determine which games are the ones that players need the most help to complete. The study describes these as the "most confusing" video games that people are playing this year, though that may be a misnomer. After all, a gamer looking up information a guide or walkthrough for a video game doesn't necessarily mean the game is confusing; it could simply mean that one is looking for new strategies, help finding collectibles, or whatever else.

Regardless, the data showed that FromSoftware's Elden Ring was the "most confusing" game, and by a considerable margin with 171,840 searches. It makes sense that people would be looking up guides and walkthroughs for Elden Ring, as it's one of the most challenging games available today. Not only that, but Elden Ring is currently the best-selling game of 2022, so it's possible more people are playing it than the other games in contention.

  2. Metroid Dread
  3. Resident Evil Village
  4. Assassin's Creed Valhalla
  5. Far Cry 6
  6. Fall Guys
  7. Fortnite
  8. Luigi's Mansion 3
  9. Horizon Zero Dawn
  10. Deathloop

Rounding out the top 10 are Metroid Dread, Resident Evil Village, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Far Cry 6, Fall Guys, Fortnite, Luigi's Mansion 3, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Deathloop. To put in perspective just how many more people have apparently been looking for help in Elden Ring, second place Metroid Dread had only 53,880 searches according to USwitch's data.

It makes sense for Metroid Dread to be that high up on the list, and it is actually a game that may better fit the "most confusing" description. Metroid Dread earned critical acclaim at the time of its release, but many players complained about getting lost in the game, which is a fairly common complaint about the series. Resident Evil Village, meanwhile, has puzzles that players have to complete and the like, so it's possible players were mainly looking up how to solve those.

One of the more puzzling inclusions on the list is Fall Guys, as it's an extremely straightforward multiplayer game. However, it's possible those searches comprised of people looking for strategies or secrets to better complete specific stages faster. Whatever the case may be, it would be interesting to see how this list might change at the end of the year when other big name games hit the market like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and God of War Ragnarok.
