Most Badass Women In Video Games

Strong and independent, these female video game characters are an inspiration thanks to their badassery.

In some cases, the women even outclass the men in terms of raw strength, courage, and attitude, especially once their Personas are worked into the equation. These fierce, independent ladies aren't waiting around for a man to save them, and are much more likely to do the saving themselves. That's what makes them the most badass women in the Persona franchise.

Persona 5 showed that some adults can fully embody one of the seven deadly sins, and others always suffer because of that. The Phantom Thieves set out to change the rotten hearts polluting society, becoming wanted vigilantes by the police in the process, with the state prosecutor Sae Niijima most intent on their capture.

Sae is tenacious in her goal to bring them to justice, and she even develops her own palace, as she is guilty of the great sin of Envy. The fearlessness with which she pursues them, even at the risk of making herself their target, is a testament to her courage. Not only that, Sae has been forced to be the guardian for her younger sister after their parents passing, which requires great inner strength. Sae is far from being a perfect person and guardian, but there is no denying she is strong and willful.

Some of the best RPGs are all but forgotten on the classic gaming system, the PS1.

Yukino is a tomboyish character with a background as a high school delinquent. She wasn't afraid to get into scraps, used vulgar language, and was an all-around menace before she was reformed. Even after that, she remained a badass character, keeping a cool, level head until someone she cares about is threatened. Once that happens, people will see that she should not be underestimated because of her new, softer personality - she is still one tough cookie.

Persona 4 introduced players to Inaba, a small rural town recently plagued by a string of grisly murders. The main protagonist and his friends decide to look into the murders through the Midnight Channel. One of these friends is Chie Satonaka, one of the more fiesty Persona users.

Chie is a bit of a tomboy with her short hair and love for kung-fu movies, and more than that, she is one of the most badass characters in the series. She knows self-defense, never backs down from a challenge, can be quick to rile up, and cares fiercely for her friends, especially Yukiko. There are few lengths Chie wouldn't go to in order to protect her friends, even if it puts herself in danger. Chie is definitely the rough-and-tumble friend people would want in their corner, as she would always have their back, no matter what.

Before the protagonist takes up the mantle of leader, SEES was originally headed by Mitsuru, a confident and graceful heiress who excels in nearly all walks of life. Even when the protagonist joins, Mitsuru is still an assertive and confident young woman who is certainly one of the strongest badasses in all of Persona 3.

SEES is home to many of the greatest characters in Atlus' JRPG franchise, but who is the best of the best in Persona 3 Reload?

She is often the source of envy, inspiration, or fear among other students, and it is clear to see why. Her ice powers are nothing to scoff at either, which were only improved in Persona 3: Reload, as her theurgy is among the best. She often shows care and concern for other SEES members, acting as a mother of sorts for them, as she always tries to push them to do well in school, but this should not be mistaken for weakness. With her intimidating status as a badass, no one would dare argue otherwise.

The younger sister to the expectant Sae and Student Council President, Makoto had a lot riding on her young shoulders in Persona 5. She must succeed in school, protect the students, and sniff out the Phantom Thieves. These responsibilities, combined with her lack of popularity at home and school, become too much for Makoto, who acts recklessly in order to rise to these expectations, a dire situation which results in her awakening.

Having spent a great deal of time bowing to the whims of others, Makoto eventually matures and finds her own identity, and begins carving her own path. Rising from under all those pressures and stresses and becoming one of the strongest Phantom Thieves is a testament to her status as a certified badass. Her Persona matches this fierceness, and it manifests as a motorbike that she can actually ride, which only adds to her awesome aesthetic and personality.

The Velvet Room in Persona 5 had two assistants for the vast majority, a set of twins called Caroline and Justine. Justine is the cool-headed of the two, while Caroline seems to have inherited all of their anger.

Not only do they routinely chastise or mock the protagonist, the two offer one of the hardest combat challenges in the game. If players choose to play New Game+, they can challenge these two to a fight, but defeating them will be no easy feat. The pair are highly skilled and strong Persona users that will quickly trounce the player unless they have spent hours upon hours grinding to higher levels to unlock better Personas. These two may be small, but what they lack in height, they more than make up for in badassery.
