Every year in the gaming industry fans are not only treated to great games releasing in the given year, but companies also reveal trailers or teasers for games set to release in the coming years. With next-generation consoles for both PlayStation and Xbox on the horizon in the form of the PlayStation 5 and Project Scarlett, fans can't wait to see what the future holds. The current generation also has a few big releases in early 2020 as well. Let's look at the 10 most anticipated games of 2020 and beyond.
10 Fable 4
Now, despite Fable 4 never being talked about as actually being in development, it seems to be the worst kept secret in the industry. Playground Games, developers of the Forza Horizon series, are said to be currently working on a new AAA game that happens to be an open-world role-playing game. Don't be surprised if the Xbox E3 Briefing at E3 2020 unveils Fable 4 as the game Playground has been working on. Since the closure of Lionhead Studios, fans have been clamoring for Microsoft to give the franchise another chance.
9 Elden Ring
At this point, FromSoftware can be considered one of the most consistent developers and arguably the developer of the generation, as they had numerous titles release which were all met with solid critical reception. Elden Ring is their next title which was made in collaboration with George R.R. Martin. The game's cryptic announcement trailer didn't offer much in the way of a release date, but the upcoming 2019 Game Awards could see the reveal of a new trailer since FromSoftware has been known to show up there from time to time.
8 Dragon Age 4
Bioware as a studio isn't in the best place as of 2019. They're coming off of both Anthem and Mass Effect: Andromeda, games developed by different internal studios which both happened to critically and commercially flop. The company once known for solid role-playing games is now at a crossroads.
Dragon Age 4 is confirmed to currently be in development, and both EA and Bioware have a lot riding on it. Bioware still has several diehard fans who want to fall in love with a new cast of characters no matter how many years off the game is.
7 Starfield
With the recent release and reception of Fallout 76, Bethesda is looking to get back in the good graces of their fans. Despite the game not being developed by Bethesda Game Studios, it still carried the name of one of their premiere franchises.
Starfield will be their first title fully developed after the release of The Witcher 3 which pushed the genre forward tremendously. It's likely that it will be a focus of their E3 2020 press conference and will likely see a release in 2021 as one of the first premiere 3rd party releases on next-gen consoles.
6 Metroid Prime 4
Metroid Prime 4 has sadly been the victim of a terrible development cycle, so much so in fact that Nintendo had to announce that they were starting from scratch on the project as they handed the reigns of the highly anticipated sequel over to the highly-talented and respected Retro Studios. Considering this announcement was made in January of 2019, it's safe to say the game is still a way off, but don't be surprised if you see a tease for the game by the time The Game Awards 2020 comes to a close.
5 Halo: Infinite
Halo: Infinite is set to launch alongside Xbox's next-generation console currently known as Project Scarlett. Though little is known about the game, it seems that this latest entry may be taking the franchise in a refreshing new direction, as it has ditched the numbering convention. The teaser trailer for the game also happened to hint at some open-world elements that may be a part of the game. Look for E3 2020 to be a blowout of sorts for the title and show why everyone should buy the new Xbox console.
4 Elder Scrolls VI
Players will have to wait quite a while to get their hands on the Elder Scrolls VI as Bethesda Game Studios has stated that Starfield is going to be their next release. Considering Starfield still doesn't have a release date, the logically earliest year players should expect to be playing the next Elder Scrolls title would likely be 2023. That may seem like a long time, but with next-generation consoles set to release in 2020, the years will quickly pass as fans clamor for titles that take full advantage of the new hardware.
3 GTA VI
Though there's no official announcement that this game is currently in development, it's safe to say this is what Rockstar Games is focusing on now that the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is out the door. There have bee rumors that the next installment in the mega-popular open-world crime franchise will head back to Vice City, but nothing's been confirmed. If there's one thing you can bet on it's that GTA VI will sell unbelievably well, and Rockstar Games will push the envelope when it comes to game design.
2 Cyberpunk 2077
After the breakout success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, developer CD Projekt Red quickly ascending the ranks and became a prominent and trusted AAA developer. Their latest project, Cyberpunk 2077, has done nothing but impress the last two years at E3 in Los Angeles and is finally releasing on April 16th, 2020.
Fans are excited to take on the role of this cyberpunk avatar and mold them into whatever they like. The addition of Keanu Reeves to the cast as a prominent supporting character only added to the hype as well.
1 The Last Of Us Part 2
The Last Of Us Part 2 is looking to be the latest hit PlayStation 4 exclusive and will be arriving in mid-2020. It was previously set to release in February of 2020 but was recently delayed a few months to ensure that developer Naughty Dog hits the quality benchmark standards they hold themselves to.
This sequel will have players taking Ellie on a mission of revenge and hate in a cruel world that has only continued to become more and more dangerous as the years pass. Will she find the closure she's seeking?
