Petting the dog has become a true facet of the gaming world. Spawned by a Twitter account that simply poses the question if a game allows players to pet a furry companion. With even Fortnite getting in on the dog petting action, a recent open beta proved that petting the cat is just as important.

Mortal Shell just ended its open beta and developer Cold Symmetry is sharing some player data it gathered. While there are definitely some interesting insights with Mortal Shell having over 350,000 players and over 5 million views via streams, Cold Symmetry made sure to include the really important detail.

According to a tweet released by the developer, it seems that many players were willing to take a break from Mortal Shell's dark fantasy world and show a cat some love. It turns out that over 150,000 cats received a good petting during the open beta. While the stats are rounded off, 43 percent of players were willing to give some love in a game where that often leads to death.

It would be fascinating to see how the stats would have been affected if a dog was featured instead of a cat. Dog petting became a truly crucial question within the gaming world in 2019. The Twitter account "Can You Pet The Dog?" became a meme that many players took very seriously. With the Dog Petting Twitter Checker turning a year old this year, maybe its time to see more of the stats of cat loving gamers.

Mortal Shell releases Q3 2020 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
