This has ranged from feigning his surprise and even suggesting it was Injustice 3 instead of a new Mortal Kombat game. In addition, he put up a poll regarding modes fans would like to see return. The most likely answer fans have theorized is that the number of "ticks" in the tweet is supposed to be in relation to Mortal Kombat 12, with the word itself representing a clock counting down to an imminent announcement of the fighting game. The most prevailing theory is that the game will be revealed on April 19, 2023, as that date will mark Mortal Kombat 9's 12th anniversary.

As of now, however, this is only speculation for Mortal Kombat 12. Fans of NetherRealm are anxiously anticipating the reveal of this game, as it has been nearly two years since the last game, Mortal Kombat 11, received its final update. The only other thing known about MK12 other than its existence is the engine that it will possibly be using, according to past job listings.

2023 is looking to be a rather busy year for the fighting game genre. While little word has been given about Mortal Kombat 12, Capcom's Street Fighter 6 and Bandai Namco's Tekken 8 are currently the most widely anticipated fighting games of 2023, on top of other fighters like Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4.
