Mortal Kombat 12 was revealed to be NetherRealm's next project, with fans turning to MK series co-creator Ed Boon for more details.Boon, however, is known for trolling fans online. In the past month, he has teased fans about Mortal Kombat 12 in various ways. While it could be another troll, fans now think Ed Boon has left some cryptic clues about characters who could be on the Mortal Kombat 12 roster.This latest set of clues was dropped in a Twitter Space session that was held by Boon. For the uninitiated, Twitter Spaces are live audio conversations that can be held on the platform, which can be joined by anyone to listen in on. According to those who listened in, there was a music playlist that played near the end, which some believe housed clues about Mortal Kombat 12’s roster, among them being fan-favorites like Rain, Mileena, Sindel, Smoke, Stryker, Scorpion, and more.
The full list of songs was compiled by Twitter user Kevinmcolon, with songs that are all relevant to past Mortal Kombat characters in some way. For example, Purple Rain by Prince, is directly tied to the whole conceit behind Rain's creation. Rain was initially created as a joke character, being a purple ninja like Scorpion and Sub-Zero, who was then named Rain to pay homage to the late musician. Rain ended up being one of the franchise’s most popular characters, though hasn’t been a part of the base roster since 2006’s Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. The other songs that are a part of the playlist have also gotten fans speculating, with the choices also relevant to characters that could potentially return in Mortal Kombat 12.
For the time being, this is all speculation, so fans should take this information with a grain of salt. According to industry insiders, more information about Mortal Kombat 12 is potentially coming out this month, so fans will need to wait and see if Rain or other fan favorites will be making their grand return to the tournament.
