At the end of August, fighting game-phenom Dominique "SonicFox" McLean revealed a Mortal Kombat 11 tier list that ranked the cast following a significant balance patch. This SonicFox tier list saw characters like Nightwolf, Liu Kang, and Jax rise to the top, while Shao Kahn, Kotal Kahn, and Kollector sank to the bottom. However, a lot has changed in the intervening months, and the master is back with yet another updated MK11 tier list.

This new Mortal Kombat 11 tier list paints an interesting picture, which is that every MK11 character is viable in competitive play. SonicFox makes this point very clearly by stating that "every character can be solo mained and taking[sic] to victory if you put in the work." While some may wonder if this is, in fact, true for players that are not as skilled as SonicFox is at Mortal Kombat 11, they seem committed to this position, and it is reflected directly in the tier list featured below.

With respect to the specifics of this new tier list, it indicates that the absolute best Mortal Kombat 11 characters are as follows: Johnny Cage, Cetrion, Liu Kang, Geras, Kabal, Raiden, Cassie Cage, Terminator, Kollector, Kung Lao, and D’Vorah. Indeed, SonicFox considers all 11 of these characters to be S-tier, and there are several inclusions, such as Kollector and Raiden, that may leave some fans surprised.

Just below these best MK11 characters is SonicFox's S- ranking, which consists of the following fighters: Jax, Jacqui Briggs, Frost, Baraka, Kotal Khan, Shang Tsung, and Kano. This means that SonicFox has given 18 characters in total an S-rank, which, as they point out, is more than half of the roster.

After the S-tier, SonicFox ranks the following nine characters as A+: Nightwolf, Noob Saibot, Jade, Sonya Blade, Skarlet, Sindel, Katana, Shao Khan, and Scorpion. Sub-Zero and Erron Black round out the list as A-tier, which is interesting when compared to where these fighters sat in SonicFox's August 2019 Mortal Kombat 11 tier list.

Again, due to SonicFox's extremely high skill level, it is difficult to determine just how applicable this tier list is to average play. That said, the idea that every character on the MK11 roster is viable is an exciting one, and it could mean that the game has the potential to keep evolving for a long time to come, especially considering that more characters are still to be added to the roster though the Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
