In the time leading up to Mortal Kombat 11's gameplay reveal, the rumor mill was churning that Ronda Rousey would be voicing Sonya Blade. And when it was revealed that she was invited to the gameplay event, this rumor seemed all but confirmed. Now, we now know that Sony Blade is, in fact, voiced by the famous WWE superstar.

Because of this, Mortal Kombat 11 developer NetherRealm saw fit to give Sonya Blade a special trailer, featuring commentary by Rousey. This trailer goes into detail concerning Rousey's thoughts about Sonya Blade, as well as showcasing a devastating fatality against returning characters such as Baraka and Skarlet. Rousey also discusses her personal experience with the Mortal Kombat franchise, something many fans may be able to relate with.

For the uninitiated, Sonya Blade debuted in the original Mortal Kombat arcade game. Not only is she one of the original characters, but she is also the first female fighter of the franchise. Now, the character commands all the operations of the Special Forces and is a formidable fighter from the Earthrealm.

It's also worth mentioning that is not Rousey's first foray into video games. Fittingly enough, she was the pre-order bonus for WWE 2K19, so she has had previous experience with voice acting a video game character prior to Mortal Kombat 11. And by the above trailer, she is clearly honored to be depicting Sonya Blade, a definitive character in the Mortal Kombat franchise. While this trailer is giving praise to a prominent character, NetherRealm also released a trailer for the new character, Geras.

Overall, many fans of both the fighting game franchise and the American pro wrestlers are likely ecstatic to see Rousey filling the voice acting role behind Sonya Blade. Because of small details like this and the innovations coming to a long-running franchise, it's easy to see why this is one of the most anticipated games for 2019. And if this momentum carries on through release, it could easily be one of the best fighting games, if not one of the best games period, of 2019.

Mortal Kombat 11 releases April 23, 2019 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
