The team at NetherRealm Studios has been unveiling lots of content that fans of Mortal Kombat 11 will get to play around with come the release of the Aftermath DLC expansion on May 26. Among those upcoming additions are new characters like RoboCop with plenty of brutal fatalities, however players will also be getting the ability to conduct special fatalities using elements from different stages.
These Stage Fatalities, which were advertised by NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon in a tweet earlier today, will be free for all players to use alongside new stages being added in Aftermath. Mortal Kombat 11 will have a wide range of creative kills using this feature based on Boon's sizzle reel, including dunking fighters in corrosive acid, impaling them on floor spikes, and, most hilariously, crushing them with a Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance arcade cabinet.
For those who find these extra gory Stage Fatalities too much to inflict upon their opponents, NetherRealm Studios is also re-introducing Friendship match enders through the Aftermath DLC. These will allow players to finish the job not with slaughter, but with pleasant activities such as former Shaolin monk Kung Lao using his razor hat as the circular track for his toy train.
While Aftermath will include many elements which are free for all players to utilize, such as Stage Fatalities and Friendships, anyone looking to mess around with new DLC characters like RoboCop and the story campaign will need to spend $40 for the expansion's full experience. Alongside the guest character from Paul Verhoeven's iconic 1987 film, Mortal Kombat 11 will be receiving the four-armed warrior Sheeva and the wind elemental fighter Fujin.
All three of these characters have a lot of work put into their movesets and surrounding details such as introductions and Fatalities based on the information which has been revealed about them thus far. For instance, one of the battle introductions for returning character Sheeva references Mortal Kombat 3 by including the head of another former character Motaro.
For those who are more interested in the additional battle mechanics that will be added rather than the new playable characters, Aftermath should have fans of the fighting game staple covered through elements like Stage Fatalities. Given how brutal some of them look in Boon's footage, it's one of the big things to be excited about for the Mortal Kombat 11Â DLC.
