A recent discovery exposed some users taking advantage of the limited Mortal Kombat 1 stress test, selling codes for access to try the game out at ridiculously-high prices. The stress test codes were given to certain players who registered for the Mortal Kombat 1 stress test on the Warner Bros. website.

Mortal Kombat 1 is the 12th installment — and second reboot — to the main franchise, excluding any off-shot games, and serves as a direct sequel to Mortal Kombat 11. While the game doesn't officially release until September 19, players can jump into the action earlier than anticipated with a code, where they'll try out four characters's fighting ability.

While listings on eBay are scarce at the moment of this writing, they are selling for anywhere between $180 to as high as $810, with the remaining listings averaging around the $200 mark. It's unsurprising to see the select few taking advantage of the limited stock, as Final Fantasy 16 suffered a similar fate with the release of its Collector's Edition. Unlike that instance, the Mortal Kombat 1 stress test came in codes, available to those who registered and selected at random, but the stress test is only open from June 23 until June 26.

Mortal Kombat 1 stress test code ebay

As the stress test codes for Mortal Kombat 1 were sent out on June 23, early eBay postings came in at a whopping price of $1,000, which received swift backlash from the game's community. For those who have held on to their Mortal Kombat 1 stress test code, first impressions appear mostly positive from players who were wise not to sell them away. The three-day window to try the game out offers players with time to adjust to the battle system and be ready for the open-day launch.

The unfortunate event of scalping items of limited quantity will continue to grow as greed sets in for many looking to make quick cash and capitalize on the desperation of others. Anything from collector's editions to accessories, such as the Switch N64 controller, have listed on eBay for unreasonable prices. Fans on the outside looking in should wait the additional two months to play the game in its entirety or wait their turn for beta access instead of draining their wallets dry.

Mortal Kombat 1 will release on September 19 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
