Highlights

  • Adding more new characters and Kameos to Mortal Kombat 1 through a second Kombat Pack makes total sense.
  • The Kombat Pack has been a key driver of content for Mortal Kombat 1, keeping the game fresh and expanding its roster.
  • A second Kombat Pack could bring in fan-favorite missing characters and keep the game's growth on track for the future.

A second Kombat Pack for Mortal Kombat 1 would feel like a logical choice thanks to several factors surrounding it. Of course, the idea of adding even more characters to Mortal Kombat 1 is the reason that will ring loudest for most, and for good reason. While NetherRealm hasn't been particularly talkative on the subject yet, a second Kombat Pack would make plenty of sense. Of course, fans will probably have to wait for the first one to finish before any announcements for a second. Either way, it may be one of Mortal Kombat 1's best possible moves.

So far, Mortal Kombat 1's first Kombat Pack has added several new fighters and Kameos to the game. To date, this consists of:

  • Omni-Man
  • Quan Chi
  • Tremor (Kameo)
  • Khameleon (Kameo)

Peacemaker and Janet Cage are set to join soon as a fighter and Kameo, respectively, and Ermac and Homelander are scheduled to join as playable fighters as well. Alongside the Invasion seasons, the Kombat Pack has been the main driving force for content in Mortal Kombat 1. The game is steadily growing over time, which should be good for the community. The question is how much the game will grow over the years.

The Argument For and Against Mortal Kombat 1's Kameo Fighters to Return in MK2

Mortal Kombat 1's Kameo fighters are essentially what the entry revolves around, but there's an argument for and against them coming back in a sequel.

A Second Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pass Would Have Plenty of Merit

Mortal Kombat 1's Kombat Pack Expands the Game's Roster Significantly

Further increasing the ranks of Mortal Kombat 1's fighters is the most obvious advantage of the Kombat Pack. Adding more characters post-launch gives players more options to choose from, as well as more movesets, combos, and strategies to learn. This is also true for Kameos, even though they aren't directly playable and have limited movesets. They're basically a slightly limited extension of the character's moveset, and add utility in their own right. The Kombat Pack has been a major gift to players thanks to its roster expansions. It stands to reason that a second Kombat Pack would also be useful for this purpose.

Past Mortal Kombat Games Had Several DLC Waves

Another argument for a second Kombat Pack comes from comparing Mortal Kombat 1's DLC to past games. The last couple of Mortal Kombat titles featured multiple waves of DLC that each brought new fighters. Mortal Kombat 1's Kombat Pack was stuffed with both Fighters and Kameos, but if only one wave of DLC fighters comes out, the game might feel undersupported compared to past games. The new fighters so far have been great, particularly the guest fighters, but if no new fighters come, the game's growth could stagnate. Coming out with a new Kombat Pack may be the best idea for Mortal Kombat 1's longevity.

Many Mortal Kombat Characters Have Yet to Enter Liu Kang's New Era

Finally, Mortal Kombat 1's roster still has a few notable gaps that can be filled. There are several notable characters missing from Mortal Kombat 1's roster. In some cases, like Jax, Sonya, and Kano, they only exist as Kameo fighters so far. Meanwhile, others like Skarlet, Sheeva, and Erron Black are completely absent. These missing fighters still have fans, and any number of them getting announced for Mortal Kombat 1 would be good news for many. Another wave of DLC fighters could be a big gift to the new era's roster.

The current Kombat Pass has been excellent, and a second one would have every chance to be just as good. If the trailer for Peacemaker in Mortal Kombat 1 is any indication, the developers are far from out of ideas when it comes to making new fighters come to life. Whether it be new guest fighters, or reintroducing more favorites into the new era, there is a lot that Mortal Kombat 1 can gain from more DLC fighters. Fans shouldn't be surprised if Netherrealm announces a second Kombat Pack for Mortal Kombat 1.
