Despite only receiving a proper announcement trailer just a month ago, Mortal Kombat 1 is only a few months away, hitting store shelves on September 19, 2023. Both a sequel and a reboot, Mortal Kombat 1 follows the events of Mortal Komat 11's Aftermath DLC which saw Liu Kang gain the powers of a time god, and recreate the universe to his own liking. So while Mortal Kombat 1 is taking the series back to its roots once more, fans can still expect to see plenty of new twists and surprises.

Of course, no modern-day AAA release would be complete with a bevy of pre-order bonuses and a variety of special editions, and Mortal Kombat 1 certainly won't disappoint. As well as the usual bonus playable character available for those who pre-order the game, Mortal Kombat 1 has a total of three editions to choose from, with plenty of both digital and physical goodies for fans to get their hands on.

Mortal Kombat 1 - All Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses

Mortal Kombat 1 Kollectors Edition

The Standard edition of Mortal Kombat 1, which includes the base game only, is retailing for $69.99 for every platform. This even includes the PC and Nintendo Switch versions of Mortal Kombat 1, which rarely see the $70 price tag on their storefronts. The next edition up is the Premium edition of Mortal Kombat 1, which is retailing for $109.99. The Premium edition of Mortal Kombat 1 includes five days of early access to the game, with it being unlocked on September 14, early access to future DLC characters, 1250 Dragon Krystals, presumably used for buying in-game cosmetics, easy fatalities, etc., and the Kombat Pack. The Kombat Pack is undoubtedly the biggest draw of the Premium edition, giving players access to six playable characters, five Kameo fighters, and a Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage.

Finally, there's Mortal Kombat 1's Kollector's edition. Retailing for $249.99, the Kollector's edition of Mortal Kombat 1 comes with everything in the Premium edition, along with a good few extra physical and digital goodies. Of course, the biggest reason to buy the Kollector's edition of Mortal Kombat 1 is its Liu Kang statue, measuring 16.5" tall. This statue depicts a black and white version of the Fire God himself on top of a plinth, surrounded by two circling dragons. A few red highlights on Liu Kang's costume really help to make the statue pop at a glance.

The Kollector's edition of Mortal Kombat 1 also comes with an exclusive white steelbook case depicting one of Liu Kang's dragons in golden line-drawn format. This edition also includes a set of exclusive art prints, all made by COARSE. All of these physical rewards come bundled up in a sleek box, again depicting one of Liu Kang's dragons on the front, this time in white against a gray background. In terms of digital rewards, the Kollector's edition of Mortal Kombat 1 comes with everything in the Premium edition, 2700 Dragon Krystals, and an exclusive in-game cosmetic for Liu Kang inspired by the Kollector's edition statue. It's also important to note that Mortal Kombat 1's Kollector's edition does actually come with a physical copy of the game - which is pretty rare nowadays for collector's edition - with most bundling in a digital code and some not even including the game at all.

Regardless of which edition fans purchase, any pre-order will grant them access to Shang Tsung as a playable character. It's currently unconfirmed whether Shang Tsung will be unlockable just through playing Mortal Kombat 1, but NetherRealm's track record makes that extremely unlikely, with all of its past pre-order bonus characters like Goro and Shao Kahn being locked behind a DLC paywall when the game releases.

Mortal Kombat 1 will be released on September 19, 2023, for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
