Highlights

  • Omni-Man has become Mortal Kombat 1's most popular fighter due to being overpowered, having a great moveset, and impressive Fatalities.
  • Homelander, the upcoming DLC character, is expected to have a unique moveset based on his appearance in The Boys, featuring his heat vision, flying ability, and super strength.
  • In addition to a playable Homelander, the DLC will likely include extra content such as a story tower with a similar ending to Omni-Man's, potentially featuring cameos from The Boys characters.

It didn't take long before a meta formed around Mortal Kombat 1's base game roster. Within just a few days, fans had already worked out which of Mortal Kombat 1's fighters were the best, and they quickly became the go-to pick for the vast majority of online players. For months, players were forced to fight an endless stream of Smokes, Raidens, Scorpions, and Johnny Cages, with Sareena and Cyrax almost always fighting right alongside them dishing out the same combos time and time again. But as is usually the case with Mortal Kombat, the introduction of a new DLC fighter has shifted the meta significantly.

Released just a few weeks ago, Invincible's Omni-Man has made his way to Mortal Kombat 1, and he's become an immediate fan favorite. Ridiculously overpowered, but in the best way, Omni-Man has become Mortal Kombat 1's most popular fighter, at least according to Fatality search statistics. With an excellent moveset based entirely on the source material, the triumphant return of J.K. Simmons, and some wonderfully gory Fatalities, Omni-Man is sure to stand out from the crowd for a while, and it gives fans a good indication of what might be included in Homelander's Mortal Kombat 1 DLC, which is slated for a Spring 2024 release.

What Fans Can Expect From Mortal Kombat 1's Homelander DLC

Homelander as a Fully Playable Fighter

Omni-Man's Mortal Kombat 1 DLC sets a pretty great precedent for the entire first Kombat Pack, and especially its upcoming guest characters. If Omni-Man is the blueprint that the rest of the DLC roster is going to follow, then it seems extremely likely that Mortal Kombat 1's Homelander will come with his own wholly unique moveset, filled with combos and special moves that have all been inspired by the character's appearance in The Boys. For instance, fans can probably expect to see Homelander's heat vision play a major role in his combos, along with his ability to fly and his super strength.

Much like Mortal Kombat 1's Omni-Man, Homelander will also probably come with his own set of Fatalities, again inspired or even ripped directly from the source material. Some of Homelander's Mortal Kombat 1 Fatalities might include forcing an opponent to jump off a building to their death, ripping out their insides with a single punch to the gut, or maybe even using his heat vision to burn two holes in an opponent's skull. There are a ton of really gruesome The Boys moments for NetherRealm to take inspiration from.

While J.K. Simmons reprised the role of Omni-Man for Mortal Kombat 1, The Boys' Antony Starr apparently won't be providing his voice for the role of Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1's upcoming DLC. It's currently unclear why this is the case, or who will be voicing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1, though Starr has seemingly lent his likeness to the in-game character model.

Extra Content for Mortal Kombat 1's Homelander

As well as a fully playable Homelander, Mortal Kombat 1's DLC will probably add some extra content for the supervillain, with the biggest likely being his own story tower. Omni-Man's Mortal Kombat 1 story tower ending sees him defeat Quan Chi and Shang Tsung, and then proceed to conquer Mortal Kombat's various Realms in an attempt to fulfill his duty to the Viltrum Empire. After catching a quick glimpse of some other Viltrumites, Omni-Man's story tower ends with a shot of the villain facing off against his son, Invincible. It seems likely that Homelander will receive a similar story tower ending, hopefully with a few The Boys cameos thrown in for good measure.
