A recurring debate in the fighting game community is how the genre can do more to captivate audiences beyond 1v1 battles. This year Capcom brought World Tour mode to Street Fighter 6, creating a sort of in-game RPG. Meanwhile, Mortal Kombat 1 will ditch the Krypt to invest in a new unlock system, which the leak now reveals to be the Invasions mode.

With Mortal Kombat 1's release approaching, news and leaks about the game are appearing more frequently. Recently a Mortal Kombat 1 leak suggested that Shujinko from Mortal Kombat: Deception will return to the series as a Kameo fighter. Meanwhile, rumors are already pointing to which fighters players will see in Mortal Kombat 1's second DLC wave, including the potential appearance of the iconic Noob Saibot. Additionally, Geras is back in Mortal Kombat 1 as a playable character.

Ed Boon has said that Mortal Kombat 1 will not have a battle pass, but the leak is causing some players to speculate whether Invasions mode will have any type of season pass. NetherRealm Studios confirmed that Mortal Kombat 1 has microtransactions, but didn't give details on how they will work. With the next Kombat Kast happening this month, players hope some of these details will be revealed.

Mortal Kombat 1 launches September 19 for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
